1. Livia Soprano, Frank Pembleton....
Just about any character on The Wire, Dwight Schrute, GOB Bluth, Tobias Funke.

14. My great-grandmother was exactly like Livia Soprano.
It was weird watching Livia on the show. I swear David Chase knew my gram.

46. That attitude was passed on in my family.
It was everything I could do to get out of there somewhat mentally intact.

I suffer from anxiety attacks, so I empathize with Tony quite a bit.

45. There's always at least one Livia in your life
The type of person who is old and bitter about how life's treated them, and they aren't afraid to let you know about it.

It's a shame Nancy Marchand died halfway through the series. I'd love to see her continue to give Tony anxiety attacks.

47. It became a family trait with them.
I can't be around them any more. It will be 9 years in February.

That one scene where they superimposed Nancy Marchand was really bizarre.

50. Yeah....
I would have them rather just have Tony speaking to her over the phone, or maybe just a shot from the back of her head. Seeing her again after she died was a little too weird.

I think I saw only two episodes, and "Bomb" was the first. The "holocaust" line and the lentils all over the place are about all I remember. Oh, and the two guys bashing through the wall to get to the lentils.

I always wondered if the show wasn't ripped from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h32tF4EjbY&feature=related

41. Great character!
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 01:36 PM by PeterU
I included him in my "Wire" catch-all, but he's the first that comes to mind from that show.

A drug dealer who looked more like he'd audit your taxes than shoot you for skimming from the supply. But you could tell by Season 3 how torn he was between going legit and continuing his drug empire.

Also a great character from The Wire is Omar. Sort of a modern-day Wild West outlaw living in the projects. Love how he whistles "The Farmer and the Dell" whenever he walks in to cause a scene.

And from the political side of The Wire, I love Tom Carcetti, i.e. the new mayor. Based in part on Martin O'Malley, he's the epitome of every young, ambitious politician.

Gwen (Georges Girlfriend): It's not you it's me.

George: You're giving me the "it's not you, it's me" routine? I invented "it's not you, it's me". Nobody tells me it's them not me, if it's anybody it's me.

Gwen: All right George, it's you.

George: You're damn right it's me!

76. "Well, we can throw out birthdays immediately. No numbers for you."
"That's too obvious. You're a word man. So what kind of man are you? Well, you're weak, spineless. A man of temptations. But what tempts you? You're a portly fellow. A little long in the waistband. But what tempts you? Is it the salty snacks you crave? No. Yours is a sweet tooth. You may stray but you'll always return to your dark master - the cocoa bean. And only the purest syrup nectar will satisfy you. Ovaltine! Nestle's!"

- Kramer trying to guess George's ATM code

88. "Jerry, just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it."
George Costanza: I just don't see what purpose is it going to serve your going? I mean, you think dead people care who's at the funeral? They don't even know they're having a funeral. It's not like she's hanging out in the back going, "I can't believe Jerry didn't show up".
Elaine: Maybe she's there in spirit. How about that?
George Costanza: If you're a spirit, and you can travel to other dimensions and galaxies, and find out the mysteries of the universe, you think she's going to want to hang around Drexler's funeral home on Ocean Parkway?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Lippman: It's come to my attention that you and the cleaning woman have engaged in sexual intercourse on the desk in your office. Is that correct?
George Costanza: Who said that?
Mr. Lippman: She did.
George Costanza: Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorence on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing is frowned upon... you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices, and I tell you, people do that all the time.
Mr. Lippman: You're fired!
George Costanza: Well, you didn't have to say it like tha

96. Opposite George....
Cushman: I gotta tell you, you are the complete opposite of every applicant we've seen. Mr. Steinbrenner, sir. There's someone here I'd like you to meet. This is Mr. Costanza. He is one of the applicants.
George Steinbrenner: Nice to meet you.
George Costanza: Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years, you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego.
George Steinbrenner: Hire this man!

108. The Sea was angry that day my friends......
George Costanza: The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I got about fifty feet out and suddenly the great beast appeared before me. I tell you he was ten stories high if he was a foot. As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said, "Easy, big fella!" And then, as I watched him struggling, I realized that something was obstructing its breathing. From where I was standing, I could see directly into the eye of the great fish.
Jerry: Mammal.
George Costanza: Whatever.
Cosmo Kramer: Well, what did you do next?
George Costanza: Well then, from out of nowhere, a huge tidal wave lifted me, tossed me like a cork, and I found myself right on top of him - face to face with the blowhole. I could barely see from the waves crashing down upon me but I knew something was there. So I reached my hand in, felt around, and pulled out the obstruction.

Cosmo Kramer: What is that, a Titleist?

Cosmo Kramer: Hole in one, huh?

110. Kramer goes to a fantasy camp?
His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp.
