Heresy - discuss
One of the local churches has a do-it-yourself sign out front. Every week for the last five weeks they've posted blatant heresy.

Examples:

1. It looked suspiciously anti-Catholic to me...
...until I noted the website address, that is.

2. The church in question is anti-Catholic
Their flyer boasts of having no creed.

3. Not really. You just have to read the image more closely
The web address "http ://www. churchsigngenerator .com" is on the images you posted. And sure enough, it's there.

5. I used the church sign generator to create the pics
The church itself is a block over from where I live.

6. Two easy ones
"Jesus is God".

No, Christians worship God who evidences himself in the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Ghost. You can't break one part off and proclaim that "God".

"Jesus....no rite"

Take...eat...this is my body...blood. Do this in remembrance of me.

Sounds like a rite to me. Now known as the mass.

7. But you made these images yourself
So your point is that you can create heretical images and then post them? I don't get it.

9. I believe the key word is "example"
As in these are not actual pictures of the sign but the poster used the sign generator to show you what they said.

8. But in Trinitarian theology, Jesus is God.
The Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God. God is all three of them together. Jesus is Emmanuel, "God with us".

You could be correct on Communion (and we could include baptism in this, too) as a rite - but Jesus never said it was a required rite, something essential for salvation. And so I would say Jesus offered us some guidelines and some spiritual disciplines/faith practices. But since none of them are required for salvation, or to "gain God's favor", I would agree with the phrase about Jesus not being about rules and rites. He was more about a way of life that is drenched in love, compassion, and mercy.

10. Rule one of heresy:
Don't talk about heresy!

Even if they do say "Jehovah."

13. Rule 2:
Recant, but mutter under your breath, "Eppur si muove." Then when the story breaks years later and you're House Speaker, you can claim you didn't really mean it.

12. The statements are pro protestant, not anti-Catholic per se.
All religious affirmations are an implicit criticism of ever other religion.
