Super Bowl: National Anthem and Apache Helicopters? NFL is Pro-War?

I've been away from DU since Saturday, so I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up already.

What was up with the 4 Apache helicopters that were shown toward the end of the national anthem? :shrug: Is American pride based solely on our ability to go kick peoples' asses around the globe at will? To me, this seemed like a bit more than a veiled RW pro-Bush, pro-war message. I thought the NFL wanted their name kept free from any political affiliations or messages. Or maybe I'm just looking deeper into this than I should be? :shrug:

SO NFL is confined to the early am on the cable/northern terrestrial channel, Channel 5, so I can't really comment. However i think that the WWE is clearly very pro war, what with the special they did when visiting the troops and Paul Heyman, the evil-GM, being accused of ''not supporting the troops'' The whole thing reeked of conformity towards that pathetic macho-gun-toting-warmongering-repukeism that you Americans are told is "true" patriotism, mind you can you expect anything other than conformity from "sportsmen" who are told if they are going to win.

Btw I know Im sad for knowing stuff like this, but wrestling is a laugh if you dont take it seriously, although its gone hill since end of Attitude era. Altough i cant watch it anymore as im at uni atm.

I think it had throughout a pro-Bush message.
They interviewed the guy and the interviewer knows the Bush family personally? Great!
The whitehouse "policy" ads were allowed. The moveon ad wasn't. It was in Texas for god's sakes. Was just there a couple years ago.
Moon landings? Were they really expecting that the Bush SOTU moon landings were going to sweep the nation? It seems that they really thought that was going to inspire people to forget about Iraq. (LOL!!)
It was a joke and completely obvious.

4. It's more of the "rally around the flag" stuff...

Unfortunately, Bush has made being patriotic equivalent with starting wars with other countries. So if you don't support the war, you don't support the president, and you don't support your country. Therefore, you are a bad American. So... it's no longer enough to sing the national anthem at sporting events - you have to PROVE you are a good patriot. Which is why they had the "over-the-top" display, IMHO.

Sadly, I don't think we've gone 25 years without using military force.

My son will reach 30 this month. In all probability he will be the first male in the American generations of his lineage to not have served in a time of "war" since the French and Indian War.

I think it "adds drama", while also being a tool for military recruiting.

I grew up in a military household, so they don't bother me much, except I thought the choice of aircraft was a bit strange. Apaches? :shrug:
