Photoshop 6.0 experts...
Hi all...

I have a copy of 6.0 (PC), but no manual. I'm looking to try a few of these basic steps:

1) even/balance facial tones/remove blemishes. I have tried using the 'airbrush' tool, but it's a little too broad.

2) remove background. Say, doing a waist-up portrait, is there a simple feature which can transplant the subject onto another background?

3) give colour photos an old photography 'sepia-tone' look, complete with emulsion imperfections.

And, is there a good PS 6.0 tutorial on-line?

1. Use the clone/stamp tool and image > adjust > color balance

2. There's no simple way to do this if the background is more than a single color (in which case you could use the magic wand). I cut out the subject with the lasso tools and clean it up erasing by hand.

3. image > adjust > hue/saturation > colorize

3. Magic Wand

Just a nitpick - if the background is a single color, use select > color range. It'll give you a MUCH less ragged selection that the magic wand (I hate the magic wand...), and if there's any selection overlap into the subject, that can quickly be fixed in quickmask mode.

There are also the background eraser and magic eraser tools, which are tricky to learn, but come in handy if you know how to use them.

On edit: OK, I don't remember if those special eraser tools are in 6.0, now that I think about it.

2. You Need this Book.
The 100% Photoshop Bible by Deke McClelland (for 6.0) You can find it at Half Price Books for around 20 bucks. THE BEST manual you can buy. Covers a ton of stuff that is not even alluded to in the Adobe manual.

You could probably find it cheaper, try Amazon's used books section. You won't be disappointed.
