What purpose does the tuner serve if you have cable and a DVR box?

I want to convert some tapes of Lelapin when she was little onto DVDs and want to buy a decent unit, but not over buy.

You can also record your dvr content to dvd, and if your cable provider has in-demand services, those can be recorded as well. It's a fun little toy.
