Did your parents ever threaten to call Santa
when you were being bad around the holidays? My Mother did.

1. My parents were Catholic, so...
...I'd already been primed with all that "God's Watching Everything You Do" crap. It was easy for them to transfer the same powers of omnipotent voyeurism to Santa. Paranoia was my constant companion.

2. Ironic that they'd switch their threat to a guy in red whose name is an anagram for Satan... hmm....

3. no, but I told my son I might have to call if certain things weren't done
I think my parents played the "sees you when you're sleeping" card.

8. Did you ever hear the Phyllis Diller bit about how
her husband Fang went into the backyard, fired a shot into the air and told the kids Santa committed suicide?

Obviously, suicide isn't funny, but at the time, (in the 70s, it was a pretty funny schtick)

12. My parents had the best scam of all going.
Turns out the guy who played Santa at the local store was a neighbor down the street. Of course I didn't know that at the time. So when Santa knew my name, and my parents names, and even the principal of my school, I was convinced that this was the Real Deal and not just one of Santa's "helpers".

My mom's other trick was trying to convince me that when she heard a helicopter flying over the house, it was the elves checking up on me. I can't believe I fell for that shit.
