Wine making

I'm looking into trying my hand at making wine...
any DUer's out there have recommendations for kits/instructions -- keep in mind that this will be the FIRST time I'm trying this soooo Wine-Making for Dummies type kits/instructions are needed

1. How much do you want to invest?

I've only made "country" type wine, from recipes I got from the old Foxfire books. But I have brewed beer from excellent kits which I purchased from www.northernbrewer.com. They have winemaking supplies and kits as well, and you'll get a good idea of what you'll need over there. Don't have any book recommendations, but I imagine Northern Brewer could give you some.

2. I don't know much about wine

But my Mum is going through a phase of making the stuff the past 2 years and really stupid flavours like marrow, artichoke, orange etc. My dad, usually a wine lover detests almost all the flavours hes forced to drink and so there are 70 gallons of fermenting, fermented and bottled wine in a purpose built shed, unlikely to ever be drunk.

and NOOOOO, I'm not going to be making guacamole-asparagus-mocha wines

just looking to make a few standard style wines...

4. Good for you ...

I got into making beer a few years ago and made some really good beers (some not so good). I was really getting into it when one day I did the math and it was costing me about the same, maybe a little more, to make beer rather than buy it. The wife is a wine drinker and she asked me to make some wine - I think I made a Cab Sav, and it was really good. I did the math there - about $60 for 20 bottles of wine from a kit (and Northern is a good place to buy) - I make three batches from kits each year and save A LOT of money. I made a Beaujolais and a Pinot Noir and a white, maybe Pinot Grigio, and they all were very good.
I have some extra carboys and equipment I'd let you have cheap. But go for it! It's a lot of fun in these cold winter months.
