Laundry experts: Help!

My grandson got red pajamas for Christmas and wore them last night. Now my sheets are red! What's the best way to wash the sheets so I can get the red out and not risk setting it in forever? I have never heard of this happening before. :scared:

3. Definitely wash them in cold water.

Hot water will probably set the dye.

It sounds like those PJs definitely should have been washed once, separately, before your son was allowed to wear them.

4. Try a cold water soak.

The excess dye should come right out.

5. Wash the pajamas with white vinegar to set the dye.

If they're white sheets just wash them with some bleach on cold and don't dry them until the dye is all out.

They're going home today and his sheets would be the next victims.

They're not white sheets, unfortunately. They have a pattern on them. If the cold water doesn't work, I'll try the bleach. Thanks! :hi:

I've been told it's available in many stores. I was looking for something that would take the dye transfer out from a white top(now pink) with red attached shirt that belongs to my granddaughter.

I've seen it before, so hopefully it's something I can find. Did you have any luck with your granddaughters top?

Soaking them in cold water overnight didn't help at all. :(

12. I 'd wash white sheets with some bleach....

Just to get the color out. Then I'd wash them again with just regular detergent.

That way they'll match.

16. Dye Magnet, I think it's made by Carbona

I bought one years ago in a drugstore and recently online.

It's a small towel that you throw in the wash with the clothes you're trying to get the color out of. Don't know how it works, but it does draw the dye out.

I found some Rit color remover today and haven't had a chance to try it. I didn't see anything else. I really think my daughter should take those jammies back before she ends up ruining all her sheets. I don't have much confidence that washing them will stop the problem. I have NEVER seen this before. :(

18. sometimes a mild bleach solution won't harm original color

you can test it first, with some bleach on a swab. I wash a lot of vintage linens, and many of them with various designs and embroideries even are okay when soaked in a mild bleach solution. The stains come out; the original color is okay.

OR

How about oxyclean or something like that? Or a non-chlorine bleach meant to preserve color?

The color remover took out most of it, but there's still a pink shadow on the pillowcase. Guess I should try oxyclean first and then bleach.

20. Well, I did the cleaning part.

Some of it came out, but not all of it. Can't burn them because we're only supposed to burn wood in the fireplace. :P
