3. i bought the original "Ringu" and while not as graphic as the american version
i like it better, Session 9 btw is really good, it's probably the only thing i've seen David Caruso in that i recommend.

6. The first two hours of "The Stand"
That holds up all by itself and is truly terrifying (at least to me).

Skip the last six hours of the mini-series, though. You will regret following it through to the end.

7. How long before some buffoon suggests "Jesus Camp" or the like?
For creepy imagery, Bergman's Hour of the Wolf is excellent. Hell, it's pretty damned excellent by any measure, but it's pretty damned creepy besides.

I find Jacob's Ladder pretty creepy, too, probably because it makes extensive use of that high-speed head-shuddering stuff that just plain freaks me out.

10. The Descent scared the shit out of me.
I didn't sleep for (I think) 12 hours afterward, and then I left the lights on. I've still had the occasional nightmare, more than a year later.

An imagination that's slightly less vivid when it comes to scaring me would be nice.

Does Psycho still scare people? I couldn't sleep the night I first saw that.

Signs was also quite scary in a good way.

and I bourght up "The Ring" and "Seven" as two films I have seen that just get going inside your head...

Every time it's dreary and raining... every time I see a red tree... every time I see a picture and wonder if it's hanging the right way up... every time I see a reference to a well... every time I am driving trhough Bakersfield... :scared:

I can't usually watch scary movies. I need someone next to me to dig my claws into and all my friends KNOW I do this and therefore will not watch any with me.

34. The Descent....
It's got everything. Claustrophobic settings. Darkness. Scary Creatures. Betraying Friends. Tragic accidents. Really good, and really effective.

I'm amazed this thread got to be as long as it did without anyone lecturing you on "Why would you want to watch scary movies when there's so much horror in real life. Waaaaaa. Waaaaaaa."

Although there was one runner up with the Farenheit 911 and Sicko response which runs a close second to the other kind of response.

35. Jacques Tourneur's films from the 1950s had a lot of creepy atmosphere
He was working with a very low budget and few special effects, but was an effective director in creeping out his audience with suggested horror, lurking in the shadows. Films like:

Cat People
Night Of The Demon
I Walked With A Zombie
The Leopard Man
