3. At $170 for season 1 (on a hybrid HD and standard def DVD disc set)

it's not red alert. It's brown alert. Brown as in "swap underwear time".

The revamped music as I recall when watching "The Tholian Web" that Sunday afternoon was mostly correct, but a little off at times. As I love that episode and memorized every detail, any minute departure would drive me crazy. And, technically, only on two notes did they "screw up". That's very minor, but if 1960s and 70s James Bond movies could be revamped into 5.1 with the original music, why re-do it for ST:TOS...

Especially as they didn't bother to update Loskene's visual image (which the 1960s effect is terrific on its own, but they opted to revamp everything else!), and how some of the 3D images themselves look flat, I'd rather stick with the previous season sets and not get quadruple-dipped. :evilgrin:

But having said that, other episodes such as "The Doomsday Machine" are updated in a very faithful and respectable way. I have been tempted, but not at that price and any half-decent LCD/plasma monitor will incorporate its own mpeg and noise removing algorithms that make the net image near-HD quality.
