East Coast vacation ideas needed

So, I normally go to The Outer Banks for summer vacation. I love the beach and it's only about an 8 hour drive from Philadelphia.
This year, I want to look at different options. Can anyone suggest a vacation spot (nice, but doesn't have to be a beach, could be mountains) that is no more than 10 hours away from Philadelphia by car??

I'd love some of your ideas!!

1. I don't know how far it is from PA, but

try Bailey Island Maine...I've summered there since I was born...and that was a while ago. My dad lives there now. There are summer rentals, by the night, week or month. Nice quiet place to visit, but only 45 minutes from Portland if you want some night life.

2. White Mountains in New Hampshire?

Lots of nice lakes, camping, hiking, beautiful scenery, gorgeous drives, you can hike or drive up Mt. Washington which is kinda fun.

10. Definetly the Whites, then from there drive Route 2 over to VT.

4. I'll second the nod to Maine

Go enjoy some lobster! Acadia national Park is beautiful. Take a sailboat out into the ocean.

Also Bar Harbor, Boothbay Harbor, Old Orchard Beach (hot Canadian's in speedos), Lobstah, chowdah, clams and the like!

though I've only seen it in winter. I'd love to go back for summer.

Maine is the vote from this corner of NC. :D It's not overly developed like the NE beaches and towns (and ugh Myrtle Beach, even) and the seafood is to die for! :9 :9

12. Lake George, NY is one. Finger Lakes Region in upstate NY, another.

Lots of boating and watersports, plus wineries there.

Closer to home, there's plenty of places to go in the Delmarva, too, Crab is the thing, and The Wild Ponies of Chincoteague.

That said, when in doubt, Go north! To New England! Maine is draw, certainly, as are NH and Vermont, but if you're not up for a real long drive, the Berkshires in Massachusetts are lovely in summer; lots of festivals going on there, too.

15. Deep Creek Lake, MD

Absolutely lovely and a fun place in the mountains of western Maryland in the summer with all sorts of water sports..and hiking too I imagine...I would say its maybe about 4-5 hours from Philly....

16. Cape Cod

It has national park beaches (Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown) and so much more to do on the Cape. Plus you're close enough to Boston, Vermont and Maine for a side trip. You'll be glad you did!

19. White Mountains in NH

Lots to do around the area if you're not a hiker and easily accessible views of beautiful wilderness features without having to be a hiker. And if you do like to do a little hiking you can have some great experiences in the woods and the many trails.

Obviously not near the ocean (well I guess it's only 2.5 hours away from the Whites) but there are fun swimming spots in the rivers and ponds of the area.
