Do you put TV shows or movies on your iPod?
If so - where do you find them? I have looked at iTunes and there are precious few choices there. I'm looking for other sources. Anybody know?

1. I have a bunch on mine.
I download them from torrent sites and then use Videora to convert them to the ipod video format.

2. There are ways of converting stuff you own

to h.264 or mpeg4 (iPod) format. Much easier if you have a mac of course.

Go here www.videohelp.com for all of your video encoding questions.

I think it'd be cool if new DVDs came with iPod ready versions to download. Of course the greedy MPAA would be worried about bit torrent and other peer to peer networks.

6. thanks - that would a huge shortcut if dvds came that way.
Seems like mpaa losing out on lots of money by not accommodating buyers somehow.

3. Your choices are woefully inadequate unless you are willing to do
all the leg work for yourself. The television industry, with a few exceptions, has been very slow to embrace new distribution models.

This guy (at C-net) has written a very informative article explaining the situation and the choices you might make in response to it. http://www.cnet.com/8301-13739_1-9775271-46.html

Have fun! :)

7. Well that is an enlightening article. Too bad the process is so complicated and
tramples the copyright laws. Why can't this be simple?

9. You're absolutely right. We, as consumers, shouldn't be in a position
where we have to feel like criminals in order to watch a simple everyday product like a FREE broadcast T.V. show simply because we would like to watch it at a time and place not specifically chosen by the T.V. industry.

10. Yes, but I just use iTunes
I really don't enjoy flying, but I have to periodically for work. Watching tv shows on my iPod is a little miracle for me. Fortunately, I don't watch too much tv on a regular basis, so there are usually things that sound interesting to download-- for example I've seen more episodes of "House" in the air, then on the ground. I'll be checking for everyone else's suggestions. :)

12. So where do you find "House"??? There's next to nothing available at iTunes
where tv shows are concerned.

11. Sometimes, and the process is a reasonably complicated and time-consuming one.
Pinnacle Studio is the quickest method.

1). Start Pinnacle Studio.

2). Insert a DVD

3). Select "Import DVD Titles"

4). Edit file as needed

5). Export as "iPod Compatible"

Pinnacle gives you three quality settings. I always go for the highest quality. I generally time it to start processing when I go to bed as longer files can take a while.

I have episodes of favorite TV shows lifted from DVDs on my iPod but no full-length movies. The process would be the same...it would just take longer. I have things like the "Merv Griffin" episode of "Seinfeld" and a couple of Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror" episodes. I also ripped the "Victim of Changes" performance from the Judas Priest "Rising In The East" DVD, some Zappa, some Ian Hunter...
