Didn't realize you were no longer married; our first exchange re: 1st Springsteen concerts, had you mentioning a wife and kid way back when. I have no plans nor date either; and turned down a gig because the band wasn't all that good, and neither was the money( at least I'm in a position to afford to have turned it down--I hope your $ situation improves too). But I want to say that its been enjoyable talking music with you here on DU, and remember that the "system" WANTS us to feel inadequate etc. in order to sell us more shit to make up for those feelings. I'd love to have a woman I care about to spend tonight ( and every night) with, but right now I don't. I refuse to allow myself to feel bad because I'm alone on some particular night that others have determined that I'm not supposed to be alone on, just like I don't give a damn if I don't gorge myself with turkey with a group of others doing the same on some arbitrarily chosen Thursday in November etc...Not saying that I'm always strong enough to refuse to let being alone get to me; of course it does sometimes, but I try to not let specific mass-culture-imposed occasions make it worse. I'm gonna do some practicing on the saxophone( got some old Southside Johnny records to play along with, out and ready to go), maybe even a little house-cleaning( place needs it BAD) and not pay attention to any celebrations on TV etc. Again, best wishes that things get better for ya. (and for anyone else that's feeling alone and kinda blue).

My advice: Travel and music. Travel breeds stories and icebreaking moments of overheard conversations. Being able to play music is a HUGE plus in the singles department. Few people manage to create great conversation based on work and school.

See ( if you want) my reply to Bennyboy on this same page; some of it is specific to him but maybe some of it will resonate with you too. BTW, I'm alone too; not particularly happy about it, but damned if I'm gonna let "peer" pressure from mainstream America ( who aren't MY peers anyway) make me feel even worse about it. It certainly sucks feeling like you're always striking out with the ladies ( or actually striking out), but it just takes one woman to finally see what the others have failed( or refused to allow themselves) to see in you, and there's NEVER any advance notice that that's gonna happen; it just happens; and usually when you least expect it.
