What are your New Year's resolutions?
I'm going to try to improve my financial status. I'm also going to continue getting healthier. I've lost 47 pounds, but I've still got 40 to go. After I get down to my desired weight I'm going to look into quitting smoking. Losing weight and quitting smoking at the same time would drive me bonkers, so I'm doing the easy one first. Yeah, it's actually easier for me to lose weight than to quit smoking.

to promise myself to take better care of our future (whether that be financially, health-wise or otherwise).

For the past several years my New Year's Resolution has been to take better care of myself. Then I party hardy on New Year's Eve and end up spending New Year's day feeling like shit- resolution already forgotten. Not going to happen this year!

8. I've got a hard luck past as well
Many mental as well as a few physical scars. But I've been doing really good for the past 4 years or so and I've found that the more distance I put between myself and my unfortunate past the better I feel about things.

I wish I could do something like that. But even though I've dropped some weight running still kills my knees. I guess I wasn't made to be a runner. I can walk for long distances, though, so maybe I'll get into that as a part of my weight loss regimine if the weight starts coming off slower.

What worries me about travelling to other countries is the language barrier. I'm afraid I'd get lost and wouldn't be able to get back to where I need to be because I couldn't communicate with anyone.

I rarely drink anything but water now. I used to be a Diet Coke addict and I also have sloshed down my share of chocolate milk, but I started drinking water almost exclusively and I've given up the pop totally. I haven't had a pop in about 8 months. I don't even miss it now.

It is had come to my attention in the past few days actually that I put up a lot of blocks in my head when good things are happening to me and I wind up losing out. I just had it happen with this really sexy person that really seemed to be in to me, and yet I screwed it up I haven't seen him in like a week now, although I really want to see him again.

I have a hard time developing relationships, too. Even new friendships. It's as if some mysterious force takes over me and makes me appear cold and uninteresting. I want to be warm and interesting but there's something in my brain that makes me sieze up a little.

to not be so easily affected by the circumstances around me that I cannot control. To be more accepting of the way things are in lives that I cannot change by wishing for change.

I worry about things that are beyond my control as well sometimes. Each time I catch myself doing that I just tell myself to let it go. It's getting easier. I've found that if I've got something to do, some project to work on, I tend to worry less. Like my thread at the other place about investing. I've spent the last couple of days trying to get all of the information I can about investing in stocks. I feel better when I've got something like that to do.

And for dinner let's do sea food. Do you like sea food? I'm craving crab.

I'll vote for that :) D on the other hand isn't a seafood lover but I'm sure wherever we go will probably have other choices. He has been known to enjoy good fish and chips though, go figger.

I think I have too much think time on my hands and it's hard for me to let things go. I'm an over thinker and I send myself into a tizzy more times than necessary. I overthink and undertalk! Not a good combination.

I did see your other thread, I don't know a thing about investing :( Need extra money for that too .. ah well.

I know about that stress eating. I'm prone to that as well and it can be very difficult for me to control sometimes. I'd probably be closer to my weight loss goal right now if I hadn't stumbled in times of stress.

And I'm having a hell of a time meeting new people. I don't even know my neighbors and I live in a four unit apartment building. A part of that probably has to do with the fact that I work a weird shift, but I would have thought that I would have at least one new friend by now. Oh, well. Here's to new beginnings. :toast:

so I know how that is too.

So far I've talked to people in the area on the internet, but I've only actually met one of them. And she went back home for the holidays, so she isn't around right now.

I contacted my local branch. They sent me an e-mail saying that they would put me on the mailing list. I haven't heard from them since. That was several months ago. I would think that getting this close to primary season they would have enlisted my help by now, but no dice.

What makes it hard for me to participate in those kind of groups is my work schedule. They seem to assume that everyone works 9-5 and has the weekends off.

Hopefully lose some weight. But the bigger problem, I went out Saturday night and got wrecked AGAIN! Dammit, I'm 40 now, and I know I'm not going to live much longer if I keep this up. I gave a homeless guy $5. All the cash I had on me, and he asked me if I'd drive him to my bank to get him some more money! After I talked myself out of throwing him into a dumpster, I get in my car and drive home. Fucking STOOPID! So I'm laid out on the couch all day Sunday with a shitty hangover, a real brain-buster. Between the money I blew and the stomach contents I blew the following morning, I feel pretty shitty about my life right now. Every time I look in the mirror, I want to punch myself...

I used to drink a lot and I know how that can lead to self loathing, i.e. wanting to punch yourself every time you look in the mirror. I still do drink occasionally, but it's not enough to make me feel like cutting my own throat.

I'll tell you what. Try taking small steps first. Shitcan the drunken driving. Get a cab or stay home and drink. I think that would be a good start.

Granted, I was far too skinny at the beginning of the year, but I've gone from one extreme to the other. I need to find a happy medium. I'm not going to diet, just eat better and stick to my Pilates schedule as much as possible.

I need to quit smoking as well. I did for 7 months one time, but I put on 30 pounds, too. I know I can do it it's just a question of resisting the compulsion to stuff something in my mouth all through the day. I guess that's what Freud would call an oral fixation.

69. Finally finish my Masters
Which I will do so that isn't much of a resolution I guess.

Get a better job (easier said than done, especially since I do not ever want to work for a biological consulting firm- apparently- according to some- it is the kiss of death if you ever want to work for a government agency, non-profit etc).

Try to find someone I can go out with more than once. I am not holding my breath since I seem to be no one's cup of tea these days.

85. Watch out for the French Fries. They are very high in levels of
a carcinogen called acrylamide. Acrylamide is in a number of baked/cooked starches, but it is particularly high in potatoes.

You're usually never in the same place for longer than a day with those over the road gigs. We also need more truckers here in the lounge as I have been informed by the American Trucking Association that we are not meeting our quota of truckers here at DU.

I did it for a while. I got into license trouble young, or that's how I would have made a living.

I'm always trying to improve myself, year round, but my resolutions for 2008 are:

1) Quit chewing nicotine gum (!! - Hardest)
2) Eat broccoli every single day (with tomatoes, which I already eat in abundance)
3) Read and understand medical textbooks about anatomy, physiology and all aspects of disease.

***NOBODY*** eats broccoli every day! Try eating brussels sprouts three days in a row : ) Happens if you buy 'em from Costco!

Mine are:
-- use some of the weird health-food stuff I have every day, in a ROUTINE that never changes.
-- more fresh air walks, longer and more frequent.
-- get healthy enough to learn to do fasts to help detox my body.

Other resolutions:
-- Become a Neatnik!
-- Become so frugal I spend almost NO MONEY on food!
-- Yeah, right!

over the last two years I gained 60 pounds, so I'm good. Also, I plan to exercise less, so that will help me not to burn too many calories.
