I watched Jesus Camp last night.

I alternated between being really scared about the Evangelicals' grip on our government, really sad for those poor children (who really do not know any better, because mom and dad are brainwashing them), and really fucking pissed at the adults for outright lying to those children.

And that youth pastor woman...what a fucking hypocrite. I forget what it was in the opening sequence, about being fat is sinful (Like I said, I forget the exact wording), but she has to be at least 300 pounds. Good Dog, woman, don't you see a disconnect in what you are telling the children and the appearance you maintain?

1. I liked the scene where she was pissed about her hair

and kept spraying it with hair spray

...and the praying over things inside the chapel to keep Satan at bay...

Watched the first hour, went to bed. Am going to watch the rest today.

I felt so bad for those kids, Tory the 10 year old already judging herself as a sinner for dancing because she liked to, 9 year old Rachael using the watch me grow proselytizing kit at the bowling alley and 12 year old Levi with the shaved head and the giant rat tail, you can almost see him in a few years just losing it.

16. Those adults are of two sorts

1: Those who buy into what she's selling.

2: Those who don't give a crap about what their kids are doing as long as they aren't getting in trouble (and even then there are some who wouldn't notice anyway). These sorts of churches will target these kids, giving them a sense of family they don't otherwise have while feeding on the children's fears of abandonment and feelings of guilt.

15. i was truly disturbed

the mom was "home schooling" the kids and teaching them that evolution and global warming were merely political flame-bait and not real concerns. be afraid, very afraid. i can't wait to watch it again. i am a christian also, therefore i should not find it both amusing and disturbing but, i do. i can't wait to watch it and giggle again.
