Tell me what you think of these wedding rings
Edited on Mon Dec-31-07 05:33 PM by skygazer
I don't like stones. These are custom made in my hometown in Vermont and I love them. We're thinking either the design in the lower right corner or the one in the middle on top - the one with the leaf and vine type design with the raised edge.

They come in yellow gold, white gold or platinum. I can't afford platinum :P - we'd do white gold.

What d'you think? :bounce:

edited to add the photo! :dunce:

1. My dear skygazer!
I was just going to say......where's the pic?

OK...these are probably lost wax rings, and those are the BEST!

For myself, I would prefer the one in the top row, the middle one...

It's just a little more classic look, sleeker if you will!

The other one, the one in the lower right hand corner, is just a tiny bit too busy for me...

Just MHO, however!

And...congrats!

4. Ah, someone who knows about jewelry
Or at least knows the lingo. :P

I have no idea what "lost wax" rings are but I love the designs. :)

8. Let me tell you about them...
The jeweler makes a wax ring, full size.

He then puts it in a mold.

The mold is something that will take the shape of the wax ring.

Then the wax is heated, and it flows out...hence the name lost wax.

Then, the gold (or whatever metal is used) is poured into the space that the wax has left...

And after spinning the gold, it is allowed to set...

And then lastly, the mold is broken open and the ring is removed!

Voila!

All my rings are lost wax rings, and you def. get spoiled having them...

There's nothing quite like having a custom ring...

Now, this is an abbreviated version...but it's what I know!

10. About Lost Wax.....
Charms, pendants, and rings are just a few items that can be made using a method called lost wax casting. In this process, a wax (or sometimes plastic) mold is used to create a piece of jewelry. This wax mold, called a pattern, is first weighed so the amount of metal required to fill the mold (gold, silver, etc.) can be determined. Then the mold is attached to a base, and a flask is slipped over the base. Once the mold is in the flask, a kind of plaster that looks like pan cake batter called investment, is mixed up, put in a vacuum to get all the air bubbles out of it, and then poured into the flask. It is then left to dry and harden. This takes a minimum of two hours.
Once the investment is dried, the base and flask are removed. Now the piece is put into an oven to burn out the wax. Next a centrifuge is used to force the melted metal into the investment mold.

6. Hey, skygazer
I like the two that you mentioned, however, I really like the ones on the left.

Maybe because of the rising sun (?) coming over the mountains, symbolizes new beginnings. But whichever you choose, I'm sure you will enjoy them.

When are you getting married?

7. I love them all
I'd be happy with any of them and I actually have a black and white brocure with a bunch more designs and they're all beautiful. But I tend to go for the simple.

We're getting married in February - probably the 17th. Very informal, on our annual camping trip. The bride will be wearing boots and a bulky coat, the groom will no doubt don his kneepads for the occasion. :P

12. I agree with your choices
except that I'd go for the top center over the lower right. There's something about the asymmetry of the ones on the lower right that bothers me. I'd need to see the real thing before I could really determine what it is though. The top one is more elegant. My third choice would be the grapevine, fourth would be the abstract vine. I really dislike the mountain scene as a piece of jewelry. White gold would be very pretty. We went for silver for our rings (also custom made - leaf design but no vines) since we got married long before we could afford gold.

13. We are leaning toward the top center
I like the sort of elegant simplicity of it. I like the mountain design as a design but it's too busy to me for a ring.

We seem to have similar tastes. :)

14. Those are gorgeous!
I love the one with the vine, or the one just to the left of it. Simple, classic designs: much nicer than those goshawful things with the diamonds.
