The Japanese government on Friday urged people to be careful while wearing the popular Crocs clogs or imitations on escalators after 40 people were said to have their shoes caught, with one little girl injured. A consumer safety group reported 40 incidents in which people, mostly children, had Crocs stuck on escalators from late August until early this month. One five-year-old girl broke her middle toe and three of her toenails were ripped off after her shoe was stuck on the moving stairs, said the group, the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation. Six other people were mildly injured including children as young as two, it said. The remaining 33 people reported that their shoes were damaged.

1. Also untied regular shoes are dangerous too.

When I was 7 years old, I had an untied shoe and got on an escalator (with my mom who happened to be on crutches with a broken tib/fib). My shoe got pulled off my foot (thankfully) and shredded in the escalator. No one helped my mom and I in this situation.

but the story I tell her is basically that one. The is a slow but relentless motor driving those things.

because my tiny foot would have been crushed in that thing. Seriously. Not an urban legend at all.

2. and on certain floors, too

Even though I wear my crocs every day, I must report that on certain floor surfaces, the toe of the shoe can "catch" and could lead to a fall. It happens in stores with highly polished flooring.

5. it's probably true for flip flops as well.

not a croc wearer btw, but i do like my platform flip flops in the summer.
