Poll question: Who here thinks pop music sucks big donkey dunkin' sticks?
I hate listening to the radio. Today's music stinks.

Now maybe I getting to old. But I'm absolutely sure that this crap just ain't funky enough.

Now I can find some great contemporary music, but it comes from places like London, Paris, Rio or San Francisco, not normal places. And would never make it on a local radio station.

Today's rap/Hip-hop doesn't compare to 89'-94's songs. And what passes for jazz is too boring for elevator music.

The real reason I didn't watch the half-time show was because I couldn't watch any of those no-talent hacks or has-beens scream into microphones for 15 minutes straight.

I blame Clear Channel for this shit. FM radio used to be fun before these assholes came along. Only college/public radio is worth it these days.

Am I wrong here?

1. Most of the music on the radio sucks, completely.
But, there is good music out there. You just have to search a little. Oh, most of the good music will NOT be on a major label either.

Clear Channel is partly behind it all. Remember they are also a HUGE concert promoter...the local playlist is almost gone.

3. Commercial radio is a great cure for insomnia.

Beyond that, it's as useless as boobs on a nun! Or testicles on a priest.

4. Most of it's bad
But: The Strokes, The Hives, Weezer.

FNX is the best in Boston, i would say (101.9 FM) ("True Alternative")

6. I'm big on acid jazz, trip-hop, classic hip-hop, sambas and bossas
Now I can find a lot of great stuff. but I never hear it on the radio.

And people look at me crazy when i tell them what I listen too.

With the exception of your fave station, I'm sure commercial radio is responsible for turning the general population into a throng of pod people.

7. I'm with you MrScorpio,
I've thought most of this stuff sucked for the last 20 years,
but then I'm over a half century old and I'm SUPPOSED to
hate it.

10. We're lucky in Denver
- A Public Radio Jazz station (mostly Classic Jazz)

- A Public Radio Classical station

- A Boulder station - 97.3 KBCO, which plays great music from all eras, even contemporary stuff I'd never hear otherwise.

Call me an old, stubborn fart, but I firmly believe the best rock, blues, and jazz came out of the late '60's / early '70's.

11. Commercial Radio has sucked since the automation
of practically every station's playlist over the past 10 years. There are no big radio stations I am aware of that allow freedom of choice to the DJ's in music to be played.
A damn shame, and the end of a great medium.

Neil Young (his new album)
White Stripes
Strokes
Hives
Vida Blue
Robert Randolph and the Family Band
Wilco
Guster

I could go on and on. I recently bought XM Radio for car and it is SO awesome. I love it. I love music. There is a lot of good music out there, you just have to go on a quest to find it. Go to www.sharingthegroove.org or Kazaa and download a bunch of songs. You'll like it.

14. I am an Xer and can't stand the sh*t!
I was born in 1978 and all I listen to is the Beatles and classic rock. I also enjoy Broadway, big band, classical, but CAN NOT stand pop or hip-hop. I have always been this way, from about 5th grade I was the "cute girl that didn't listen to normal music". Whatever that means. Thanks for this post!
