Besides being a dupe of MacDonalds we also sold Kentucky Fried Chicken before the Colonels franchised.
Never figured out what the secret herbs were but did know that the Colonels real secret was recycling the oil the chicken was deep fat pressure fried in. Nobody that worked there would eat the chicken.

Lik M Aid is the same type of flavored sugar, not as tart (or as good) as Pixie Stix, in a little envelope, and a candy "stick" that you lick then dip in the powder, then lick off the powder, repeat, repeat.

I think I had a Lik M Aid once. Pixie Stix are much easier.

I was addicted to Cool-A-Coos while attending college in Los Angeles, at least two boxes per day. Vanilla ice cream inside two big wafers and coated with chocolate. They are probably still available in California, but no longer in Las Vegas. Damn.

A little later, The fine food in Asmara. The Zigni, boon, Suwa, and Tej could not be beat.
Drinking tea and eating Italian roll with unsalted butter in a small cafe in the Bosh. It wasn't just the tea, it was the friends, the music, and the smell of the spices in the market.

The boon (coffee) was like Turkish coffee, but there was a ceremony that went with the coffee that made it special. They roasted the coffee there. When the beans were ready, and smoking, the pan was passed in front of each present so they can get a good whiff of the wonderful smell. The ground bean were then put in a clay vessel then water was added. It is allowed to boil three times, which seems to be the custom in much of the mid east.

When ready, some horse hair is stuffed into the stem to act as a filter. The hostess then pours a bit of the boon into a small cup. That coffee was tossed to the ground. If any food is served, small pieces are also cast around. It is an offering, a symbol of generosity and caring.

Love and caring from friends and family makes any food better.

The was the best chili colorado EVER. They closed down due to retirement of the owners about 10 years ago and I have never found any chili colorado that came close to it.

They said their secret ingredient was peanut butter which took the bitterness out of the chili.. but I've tried that and it still doesn't come close.

And would give anything to find it again. Little broccoli and cheese vegetable pastries made by Pepperidge Farm. My dog loved them, as well. And these little casseroles that you would just add hot water to and let them sit for a few minutes. This was before everything was microwavable. I liked the tuna ones. Sigh.:-(

There was a single holdout location of Kelly's Hamburgers in Birmingham, AL. I used to eat there on the way home from work back in 1991. I doubt they were still part of any chain, but they'd make me a cheeseburger combo in the morning. They sandwiches were great, but the surrounding neighborhood got too dangerous for them to stay open.

They had them back in 1996 or 1997 I think it was. I know I was in either 8th or 9th grade at the time. Those things were probably the best food I've ever eaten. Too bad they probably had a gazillion grams of cholestorol in them, tho.
