Satellite radio anyone??
I have slowly become addicted to this. I have XM radio, yes I know that they are owned by clear channel. Their talk radio sucks and I have sent them an email stating such. However, the music selection is amazing. I refuse to get satellite radio for my car because if I did I would probably not listen to Cd's anymore and I have too many for that.

2. Price it.....
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/103-1552022-7183831

Worth every penny, subscription is 9.99 a month unless you buy a couple years worth and then it is cheaper.

3. The Best is Sirius Left
I got it about two months ago. Love it. Channel 143 has Thom Hartman, Peter Collins, Mike Malloy. All progressive talk all of the time....and they are not owned by Clear Channel.

5. I can live with that.
But Sirius just added a bunch of music channels...including the one I like...Buzzsaw....that plays Van Halen, Robin Trower, etc.

I just couldn't buy XM, because already the only talk radio we can get over the public airwaves out here in Southern Cal is right-wing...Hannity, Limbaugh and our local version of right-wing wackos who got Arnold into office (with the help of Karl Rove)...Jon and Ken.

I just cancelled the San Diego Union Tribune because all of the editorials are from columnists right off of the conservative websites, and the news is that typical of that owned by Murdoch, even though I don't think the newspaper is owned by Murdoch.

I say, to each his own! Enjoy! I just wanted to hear some progressive views. I was desperate.

7. The only bummer is...
they occasionally preempt programming around 5/6 P.M. (west coast time) for hockey or basketball games. I have expressed my displeasure.

Also, most of the programs were produced in association with ieAmerica, and I hear they are having some problems; however, more Thom Hartman is independent, I believe. And I have been assured by Sirius that they will find progressive programming if they need too (if some is discontinued).

It's too popular. I believe that they will secure the proper contracts no matter what.

8. But there is nothing like a Collins interview...
or my personal favorite, a nice long anti-administration rant by Mike Malloy.

9. XM
The channel is "MusicLab"...

Incredible. Acid Jazz here and there. But, heard Derek Trucks, Belew (I think) and Zappa in 40 minutes on the way home tonight.

Zappa freaks, help a brother out... heard one I didn't recognize tonight. It was Ike, but... paraphrasing "gimme that cyborg",
Anyone?

10. Sirius
When I got mine I chose Sirius because they had NPR and XM didn't. I don't know if that's changed but it made all the difference for me.

I listen to those a LOT. And the comedy channel 150 is fantastic!

15. Absolutly Not
Its bad enough being led around by the nose with Clear Channel, and you want to pay a subscription fee to have even less choice?

Screw satellite radio.

16. Less choice?
They have more stations than regular radio and you always know what you will get. Thise stations are available anywhere. I am not sure what you mean.

18. Nonsense
What have they got, 100 stations? 200 stations? There are thousands and thousands of conventional broadcast stations across the nation and a few of them are actually still independent.

This is a case of the sheep begging to be led astray.

20. Damn, Chill out,
That is the good thing about America is that you have a choice to buy or not buy. I love the satellite radio, if you don't that's cool. By the way, if you live in south carolina such as I do, there are not "thousands and thousands" of radio stations to pick from.

17. Umm, XM isn't 'owned' by Clear Channel
If I recall correctly, Clear Channel has a less than 5% stake in the company. They do program a couple of the channels through a cooperative arrangement. And yes, the talk selection does kind of blow - but they do carry Phil Hendrie - which in my opinion makes up for alot :)

(Yes, I realize Phil goes on political tangents and is very pro-war.. but that's not why I listen to him - I listen to him due to the sheer genius of his comedy. I just tune out the political stuff)
