Got a Barack Obama question...
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 10:09 AM by jasonc
Did he vote for the Iraq War resolution?

I honestly don't know, because I am so disgusted with politics that I don't even pay attention anymore.

5. Short answer : he wasn't in the Senate at the time of the IWR,
so he didn't vote on it at all!

6. He wasn't in the Senate to vote for it.
But in 2002, before the invasion, he gave an impassioned speech against the war, and he has been against it ever since. He's the only major candidate who has been against this war from the get-go. Voting for funding it, of course, dilutes that strong statement a bit.

11. So...
I thought you didn't pay attention anymore ?

You seem to know he votes to fund the war, but you don't know his position on the war, or if he was even in the senate at the time ?

I smell a rat......again.

However, I'd put what's left of my tattered and muddy reputation on the line regarding jasonc not being a troll.

it takes one to know one...

Edit: just because I try not to pay attention does not mean I don't know anything about what is going on.

Before, when I was actively blogging I spent my days and nights poring over every single piece of news relating to politics. I don't do that anymore, therefore, I am not on top of every tidbit of news.

22. One might say that he got off easy...
...not actually having to vote against it in the Senate. The pressure on senators is apparently massive, as so damned few of them actually spoke and voted to block the war.

But yeah, Obama's on the record as having been right, back when being right wasn't cool.

23. You have a very good point
and I would like to have a candidate that went through that crucible, and came through the other side with their integrity intact.

25. I fear he is planning
on taking the easy route, and avoiding the crucible with his talk of bipartisanship and working with the repugs and making the easy votes, not the votes that show character and conviction of purpose on the Iraq War.

28. You're on to something here.
His very lack of national political experience means that there's not much dirt to dig up on him. I think this makes it look as though he's getting some sort of free ride--but this is just the corporate media's ineptness showing. They can make mountains out of molehills, all right, but they need to be spoon-fed even those molehills.

Obama, without the lengthy voting record his opponents have, is taking the populist route, talking with people about their concerns. He's doing it quite well, too, confounding the pundits every step of the way. So far, this may be proving his greatest weapon. If and when the MSM finally learns a safe way to attack him, then we'll see him struggle.

32. That is not the struggle I want to see him endure...
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 11:34 AM by jasonc
I would prefer to have a candidate that was in the house and senate during the Bush years, and had voted their convictions and conscience, instead of votring for political expediency then, and making excuses now. Obama never had to make the hard choices, so we dont know how he will come out the other side. We can guess, and I think I know how we will make those choices, and I dont like it one bit.

Now, is NOT the time to be talking about compromise and bipartisanship with the repuglicons. NOW, is the time to stomp their asses into the ground and take our country back.
