So where can a proud liberal shop in good conscience?

I would like to be the perfect liberal and live simply, but it's just not gonna happen for me.

So, where do you spend your money, in lessening degrees of guilt, with the knowledge that no entity can be perfect?

For anything; clothes, food, auto repair, your house, etc.

3. Target!

They're prices are often better than Wally World, they carry some green cleaning supplies, and in some areas, they have Super Targets with groceries (not here sadly). My issue with them is I'm a shooter, so I can't get ammo there, but I give that niche to local gun shops. Target seems to have many more long term employees locally than any other discount retailer, so they can't be too bad to work for.

The overall employee attitude is enormously better than Sprawl-Mart.

I used to work for a Dayton-Hudson Corp. store (now known as Target, Incorporated) and they far outdistance the pack in valuing their employees--it's good to know that it helps them get business.

5. Costco!

They donate money to Democrats only, and their employees are treated fairly. Great prices, too.

In the spring, summer and fall, search out a local farmer's market for foodstuffs like produce, jams and jellies, herbs, homemade breads, cheeses, etc. Support your local farmers when you can. That is VERY democratic.

Kohl's for clothing and household stuff. They are also democratic contributors. I worked for them at one time and they do treat their employees fairly, and the wages are decent (for retail) and you can get ok health insurance.

I've wondered about them. Love their clothes, but I love Mervyn's too (a Target, Inc. division).

Guess I'll just have to spread my money around at both.

Employee attitude is an almost foolproof way to tell how the cpmpany treats its employees. One may be bright and bubbly, but if they are all pleasant and efficient and caring, that speaks volumes.
