Is DU crashing?
Is it just me or is the DU server crashing? For the last several hours I've been trying to read the boards and each time I try I would get re-directed to the site you go to when you type in a wrong URL. Is this happening to anyone else?

3. err.. there is no official 'wrong url site'
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 01:05 PM by Kamika
Sounds like you need ad aware.

You're aware that there is 'no' site you get re directed to, right?

It's spyware and I had it myself..

It would redirect me all the time, page would load normally then *BAM* redirected.

Ad aware or spybot would not find it for me but I checked the windows uninstall menu and checked for some weird programs there, I found my redirecter there and it had the same name as the website it directed me to.

DU is working fine for me

4. Not AOL here, but also had a problem
A few minutes ago I couldn't get to the DU home page. I waited a few minutes and obviously now all is okay.... Sure hope we don't have another DOS attack!

7. Run your anti-virus.
Your browser is being hijacked by something you downloaded (probably w/o even realizing it).

8. I am using AOL
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 01:23 PM by polmaven
and everytime I hit the enter key for anything, I get the "Website not responding" message. I hit reload and am taken where I want to go. It is not stopping me from adding posts or anything, it is just very annoying!

18. Yep. A problem here, too.
I'm on AOL. But I don't think it's on their end. I also was having the same problem when accessing my bank online to pay bills. Maybe the Internet is crashing.

20. It's not AOL or spyware or viral....it's just a traffic misroute.
Apparently some of us hit a Domain Name Server that came back and said there was no such site.

It happens now and again.

Short lesson: Internet traffic doesn't go by www.whatever.com, it really goes by IP addresses like 12.113.22.1 to direct traffic. When you type in www.something.com a request is sent to a DNS server that reports back that www.something.com is at 12.113.22.1 and directs then your browser sends you to that site.

These DNS servers generally reside in a hierarchy that forwards a request to the next server up the chain if it finds no record of what www.whatever.com is. Sometimes due to glitches the forwarding won't take place and your browser will report back that the site doesn't exist.

There are spoofs and spyware and viruses that will redirect you to the wrong site usually by means of a hosts file on your computer that will say www.yahoo.com or something is actually at different location than it really is., but this is not what occurred here.
