Beyonce up for part of Lois Lane?
Isn't Lois supposed to be, um...smart? Better get her acting classes damn quick if she actually gets the part.

http://www.superherohype.com/superman/index.php?id=801

You heard it first here at Superhero Hype!, and now singer/actress Beyoncé Knowles herself has confirmed that she is up for the role of Lois Lane in McG's Superman.

She tells Extra, "I hope so. Everyone pray that happens for me." Don't believe us? Click the link and read the article or watch the video.

We also broke the news that Johnny Depp is up for the role of Lex Luthor, we'll keep you updated on that as well. Beyoncé will open Sunday night's Grammy Awards with Prince.

2. I don't usually get in on pop culture threads, but I have to ask a couple
of questions.

First, who or what is McG?

Second, who in hell gave anyone permission to remake "Superman"? Remakes suck! It's been done! And I tell you, state-of-the-art special effects do NOT a wonderful or superior movie make.

7. Yeah, well Lana Lang wasn't half-Asian, either
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 07:49 PM by Paragon
Now she is on Smallville. And I wasn't saying Beyonce is dumb...just not someone I would confuse with a crack investigative reporter.

15. She looks sort of Asian
If you squint one eye and look sideways at her. I think the woman that plays Lana Lang actually is half Chinese. I read something in an old Rolling Stone about the show. Her interview showed that she is a very mean-spirited person that admits to liking snubbing people.

16. Kristin Kreuk is half-Chinese & half-Dutch.
Anyway, my point was that Lana was a redhead (Annette O'Toole, who now plays Clark's mom on Smallville) in Superman III and who knows what in the comics.

I don't mind so-called "stunt casting", I'm just not a big Beyonce fan.

11. Lex Luthor = Johnny Depp NOT
This is a big fat rumor that's going around. And the latest iteration is that they want him for Jor-El now.

All I can say is YUCK!! :P

This most likely means they sent his agent the script, but will probably get a "no." It's just not Johnny's thing.

I could be wrong, I haven't read a Superman comic in quite a while.

20. So true - at least, not Depp. Anthony Hopkins would also rule.
I think Johnny Depp is great, but Hackman rocked. And Luthor is supposed to be older, not a young guy.

Heck, I bet even Danny Devito could do it, assuming this Superman movie isn't at all serious about being serious, which I asssume it isn't, since they've proposed Beyonce and Depp.

But in a real, bona fide Superman movie - which, I will add, we've NEVER had - Hopkins would make a great Luthor. Though I'd *love* to see Hackman get a chance at playing a TRUE Luthor.

Also interesting could be - and I can't remember the name, so bear with me - he played the villian in the james Bond movie about with the guy who wanted to take over all the media. Whoever played the bad guy in that movie was GENIUS. Absolute genius.

25. I second that... also,
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 09:41 PM by HypnoToad
why remake the movie at all? The Christopher Reeve movies are very charming as they are and are great movies for entire families. What's the skinny on the new movie's plot? Will it be family friendly, or will they bribe someone to give the thing a PG rating even though it deserves to be R?!

Oops, I strayed before saying it! Gene Hackman is the definitive Lex. He was GREAT in the original movie series. The dude's still alive and capable. If he thinks he can do something for the new movie's character, or even if he just needs a buck, then I'd even go watch the movie to see his performance.

Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 09:20 PM by Rabrrrrrr
No-talent idiot fake.

Obviously, I'm being subjective, so I have no supporting data. But come on. To me it's obvious. It's a fricking shame if she's being considered, because you know the movie's gonna suck, because it's obvioously not about the story, it's about "Who can we get who's famous and "hip" that will draw people into the movie?".

Pfagh, I say, Pfagh.

Everytime I think of that no-talent idiot fake, my skin crawls. i'd rather sit throgh a Billy Joel concert than listen to one song by that heinous faux-artist.

23. Spiderman, X-Men, Hulk when it wasn't a computer game in demo mode...
they had good acting.

Beyonce probably won't get cast.

Like Jay Sherman said, "If they're going to remake a movie, go rent the original instead". That's paraphrased, but it's accurate. The originals are most often always much better.

Cases in point are "Bedazzled", "Planet of the Apes", and maybe 50,000 other movies that have been remade under the guise of "modernization".

They don't need to remake "Superman", the original 4 flicks are good as they stand, so bloody what if they had to rely on limited 1979 resources? Good characters, writing, and plot can make most people overlook questionable effects... but then, I'm an intellectual and not a mainstream audience person... :D
