2. That's entertaiNEWS!
I wrote this song parody about a year ago.
Still fits.

With humblest apologies to Dietz and Schwartz, composer and lyricist for "That's Entertainment", and thanks to Fred and Cyd and the whole "That's Entertainment" gang.
click on this, click "open", and sing along.

The things that happen for real,
don't happen in these shows.
They can us make us gasp.
They can make us sigh.
Anything, anything can go.

The hair, and the teeth are just right.
On the tube, each and ever-ry night.
No in-fo, just a lot of sound byte,
That's entertaiNEWS!

They smile, and they chuckle a lot.
There they are, giving all that they've got.
And the babes...are so terribly HOT!
That's entertaiNEWS!

It's Faux on the box? You can count on the Right,
To bash, for the cash, every liberal in sight.
This isn't news, it's news-lite,
Where bush* follows father,
And causes a lot of bother.

It bleeds? Then it certainly leads.
Or it's sex... a politico's ex.
Or a star, face down drunk in a bar?
The news has a slant,
We slant all the news,
At entertaiNEWS!

A-B---C-B-S, N-B-C
(this takes some work to get the meter right, but it works!)
Spin the "news", that we all get to see.
It's a shame, but it ever will be!
That's entertaiNEWS!

The guys, and the gals on the shows,
Cut to break, just to powder a nose.
They come back, and the horsehockey flows!
That's entertaiNEWS!

C-Span...main man, will I get the truth?
Or should I just cry and watch Dr. Ruth?
Or is it...all just uncouth?
Should I move to Bermuda?
Or maybe I'll go to Cuba?

The big...TV guys are in charge
And the cash...goes to bush* in a barge
It comes back...and the payoff is large!
The news is a biz,
Our biz is the news,
The news is a biz,
That's entertaiNEWS!

12. A Karl Rove Production
> I expect to see him make a fool of himself

Of course he will, but they will edit all that out.
That's why it isn't being broadcast live.

7. I'll Record It On My ReplayTV. Then I'll Wait To See What Everyone Else
here at DU thinks of it. If it appears that it was worth watching, then I'll play my recording (and fast-skipping over all the commercial breaks is an added bonus.)

Or will it be brought to us "commercial-free" as a patriotic public service from Meet The Press?

9. I'll watch, but expectations are low; Russert a wimp
Anyone who has seen the slavishly worshipful interviews Russert has done with Rush (who will only interview with Russert) knows just how fawning and obsequious Russert can be. Look for it here: Questions provided in advance, answers provided by staff, no follow-up or challenges to answers. Russert is horribly overrated; Sunday will prove it. I will watch as much as I can stomach.

10. Why don't I just watch every other speech he's given in the past 6 months?

Russert: Mr. President, some observers are referring to this economic upturn as a "jobless recovery." What do you say to them?
Bush: We must make the tax cuts permanent.
Russert: But sir, some claim that your tax cuts favor the richest people in the country only, while leaving the middle and lower classes without any kind of tax relief. What do you say to that?
Bush: We must make the tax cuts permanent.

Russert: Mr. President, two of the Democratic candidates for President, John Kerry and John Edwards, have beaten you in some head-to-head polls. Your approval ratings are lower than they have ever been. What do you say to those who are dissatisfied with your leadership?
Bush: My administration has made this country safer.

Russert: As the attacks in Iraq continue at their present rate, or accelerate, what will you say to the parents of those killed?
Bush: Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator who gassed his own people. My administration has made this country safer. 9-11. I repeat, 9-11.

Russert: If you could say one thing to the American people today, what would it be?
Bush: Two words, Tim: Nine... Eleven.

I will give $100 to the Republican Party if Bush doesn't mention September 11th. And I'll eat my hat.

14. I'll tape it and watch later
if I hear there are some priceless moments, like the "shame on...?" speech. I taped that one from the Daily Show and will keep it always.
