This week is our first quarter 2004 fund drive. Our goal is to bring in 1000 individual donations before Sunday, February 15. To show our appreciation, we're unveiling cool new website upgrades every 200 donations received.

Yesterday when we passed 200 we unveiled our first upgrade -- a cool little function that lets you know exactly which liberal radio show is broadcasting live online. Just look at the top of the Lobby or Latest page to check it out.

Our next upgrade is something called "Latest Polls" which will let you list all of the most recent polls posted on DU, in every forum, so you and your friends can easily go freep -- er, I mean vote in them.

The upgrades get better the higher you go. The upgrade at 1000 is something that people have been requesting ever since we moved into the new message board last July.

We believe that there is no place on the Internet quite like Democratic Underground. This message board is emotionally engaging on so many different levels. There are people here that will make you think, make you smile, make you laugh, make you cry, or even make you very, very angry. There is always something interesting to read, or something fun to do.

A high-traffic website like this one requires a significant amount of money and work to stay online. There is no minimum donation, so even a very small contribution will get us a step closer to our goal. We are just a tiny little organization -- three people with very modest salaries. Every little bit helps.

I was going to make a donation to a candidate, but I'm realizing that my maximum of $20 is probably better spent here. I've definitely gotten a lot out of DU in the short time I've been here. I don't feel so idealistically lonely anymore. That's worth SO much to me. I'll be back later with a star with my name!
