Fun Rock & Roll trivia...
David Bowie first offered "Suffragette City" to Mott the Hoople. They turned it down.

So he wrote "All the Young Dudes" for them. In about an hour.

1. I've never understood why some artists write for others.
I'm glad David kept Suffragette. I only wish he would have kept Ice Ice Baby as well

4. I can think of two reasons:
1. Money
2. To express admiration

Writing music for others can pay quite well. Bowie was still sort of starting out at that point, so the money couldn't have hurt.

Much like writing a romantic letter for a loved one, I'm sure artists also write music for other artists to show admiration and respect for their work.

8. I saw Ian Hunter
in a small club once. He was performing with Mick Ronson.

I got to meet Mick after the show. We chatted for awhile. Quite a night.
