I took her and her daughter (PD) to the vet yesterday to be spayed. PD was an easy procedure but Angel was pregnant and has about a 6-7" incision that had to be sewed and stapled shut. It has been near 24 hours now and she still isn't right. When I first got her home she tried to poo for over ten minutes and couldn't seem to go. She then went into the doghouse and fell asleep. I finally convinced her to come inside the house and placed her on my bed. I fed her breakfast in bed this morning and have been going in every two hours to offer her water. I am hoping she is in better shape tommorow, as much as I enjoy not going to work I hate seeing her in such a condition.

1. Take her back to the Vet immediately |
|
It's better to be safe then sorry.
It sounds like something is wrong.

2. It does take a few days |
|
She's pretty confused and a little wiped out, I expect. Keep on giving her that love you've got, and she'll come around!
Get well soon, Angel!

Usually takes a day or two for a dog to be feeling better after this surgery but doesn't hurt to make a call to be sure.

4. After I had my dog spayed, she slept for 2 days, |
|
But I really think you should check with the vet.

5. At least call the vet. |
|
My dog was in heat when spayed so the surgery was much more extensive than usual. They told me there were stitches inside as well that they were concerned about due to the possibility of internal bleeding. I'm with the "better safe" crowd on this.

They said it is normal because of the dosage they had to give her. She isn't totally out of it, she wags her tail when I visit with her.
The Vet was really good and reasonable in pricing. For spaying two dogs, complete with shots and an exam plus all shots for the other four dogs the total was only 250 dollars!

7. The surgery takes more out of them when they're pregnant |
|
or in heat...everything's swollen and the incision has to be a lot bigger. She'll be fine - just make sure she's eating and drinking and not jumping up and down off furniture for a few days. Make sure her potty habits are normal. She'll be okay in a few days.
