Jessica Simpson: Huge in the Ukraine

http://www.tmz.com/

If you can't beat 'em, well, go to Eastern Europe.

That's what Jessica Simpson has discovered, as her "Blonde Ambition" just grossed an incredible $253,008 in its opening weekend ... in the Ukraine, reports People. Remember that the "star" vehicle opened here in eight cinemas in Texas and did a whopping $1,771 – total.

Box Office Mojo, which unearthed the good news, says that the former Soviet nations "have a sweet tooth for straight-up comedies ... Russian and Ukrainian audiences have an even bigger urge for escapism than Americans." Escapism from talent, one assumes.

1. I wish people would stop with "the" Ukraine.
It's Ukraine, no "the."

3. Does Ukrainian lack the definite article like Russian does?
It is somewhat strange that so many people refer to it as "the Ukraine."

5. Because there are people from Ukraine
who consider Americans stupid when it is referred to as "the" Ukraine. I had a next-door neighbor who was from Ukraine. Whenever he heard his country referred to as "the" Ukraine, he would totally crack up at the stupidity.

6. I don't think it makes people stupid to say it. It is just so commonly said.

9. I used to want to beat the ever-loving shit out of people who called Cream "The Cream"...
...but, you know, as I got older and went through a few anger management classes, I picked up a "live and let live" mentality. Now when I hear someone say "The Cream" I just think "stupid son of a bitch" and go off to my happy place for a few minutes.

So I understand exactly where you're coming from.

12. Well, thank GOD you refrained from saying "THE Middle East"...
...because I HATE when that happens.

"THE Ukraine," not so much.

But "THE Middle East?"

I've always thought that man was superior because he has opposable thumbs, can walk erect, and knows how and when to use "THE" in a proper manner. After reading the responses to this very important Jessica Simpson thread, I stand corrected (AND erected, nyuk nyuk nyuk).

GOD Bless America, dammit.

17. Do you mean "How much did Dukes Of Hazzard make in Ukraine?"
I took out the "THEs" as a courtesy to people who cannot enjoy their presence in this thread.
