Well I have a diagnosis for my shoulder...
I have severe tendonitis of the rotator cuff and biceps tendon, and a "freezing" shoulder. There may or may not be a small tear, that has not shown up on the x-ray.

I now have a pulley so I can pull my arm up and down, so it does not freeze up any more.

But, gawds, I hurt really bad right now. The therapist poked, prodded, stretched, pulled, folded, spindled and mutilated me.

1. Don't you hate when they poke and prod and pull, and when you make a face...
They say "Did that hurt?"

I want to smack them.

2. My dear KitchenWitch...
I am so glad you have a diagnosis!

A small tear will heal itself....

I am sorry you're in a world of hurt right now...

It should get better, though...

Good vibes to you!

9. I have orders to...
Ice it (I have already been doing that)
Take NSAIDs (doing that)
Do this pendulum exercise (just learned it)
Set up a pulley (just did that).

The real work starts on Thursday.

I am thinking I may be having a lot of Vike Nights for awhile.

6. My husband has suffered from a similar injury for about four weeks now.
" I hope you feel better very soon. He's been doing physical therapy, and it has helped. He's been diagnosed with subscapular bursitis and a tear in the muscle (under his arm) that helps control the rotator cuff. He's been miserable, and I know you have too.

:pals: Feel better soon!

23. Another voice of encouragement.....
Had a very similar injury, including the rotator cuff tear. I did exactly what you're doing. I have to admit that it took about a year for it to fully heal, but heal it did. It was about 6 months before I was comfortable raising my arm (though it still hurt some to do that) and about a year before I could completely raise my arm without pain. Hang in there -- they've got you on a good track!

20. I have a frozen shoulder but going to PT really WORKS!
I am so much better.

Here's the way mine goes. Fifteen minutes before my therapy, I am given a heat pack for my shoulder to loosen it up for stretching. Then my therapist gently stretches me for another 15 minutes. The third part is exercises in a variety of positions, then 15 minutes of a cold pack to reduce inflammation and soreness. I go twice a week.

I also do exercises at home each day.

I cannot tell you important the therapy is! It's a huge time suck when you are a busy working person, I realize. I am retired so I can devote lots of time to getting better. But it is VERY important to do the therapy and exercise!

But I also know that I do NOT want to lose any more range of motion. Because I can barely do anything now.

26. I know. I could barely move my arm sideways or back. Now I am
using a free weight and have great improvement in my range of motion. Also the pain went away very soon after the therapy started. I have an awesome therapist. She had TWO frozen shoulders, one right after the other, something that is pretty common actually. I asked her what I should do if I start getting the same deal in the other shoulder. She said get into therapy right away. You feel like you are spending half your life in PT or doing exercises but it's the only way...

28. Thanks
I was worried...as far as medical things go, I tend to be a statistical outlier. Worst case scenario for the moment is that the tear might be more extensive and require surgery. I am hoping to avoid that.

25. My sister was able to avoid surgery by keeping her arm mobile
The first frozen shoulder I had was misdiagnosed for so long that by the time I saw the orthopodist I was completely locked. They said unfreezing could have taken months and months so I opted for surgery and I don't regret it.

In six weeks I was playing tennis.

But as long as you can keep it mobile, go for it. Good luck!!!

33. KW, listen to me:
Do NOT let that shoulder freeze. The ONLY reason I am still functional is that I was stubborn enough to not "guard" my shoulder, and kept it moving, not only before, but after both surgeries.

A small mercy that is, but as you know, we need to take those small mercies as they are given us.

Keep up with the physical therapy. Do not, I repeat NOT, I'm begging you, let them cut your shoulder. I've had a fifteen-year journey though that process. including two surgeries, and I am absolutley not convinced that I wouldn't have been better off if I'd never have consented to the surgeries.

It hurts just as much, every single day, as it did before I had the operations. I could have saved myself the disruption and pain of the surgeries, and still have been in the same place.

Don't let them cut you.

Redstone

I have one of those, and a rubber band thingy, it looks like a scarf or something, but is really springy. Don't know how else to describe it. I feel your pain.

39. Oh, I'm sorry to hear this, KW
I've never even heard of "frozen shoulder" before, but I have heard that more women our age are having shoulder rotator cuff issues...so I'm not really sure what that's all about.

In any case, I'm glad to know you're taking measures to get good care and I will definitely be sending you healing vibes.

Sorry you're hurting right now.

was there for shoulder injuries. Most of us were women. One of the women had to have been well into her 70s.

41. Frozen shoulder happens usually after a torn rotator cuff
Basically the shoulder no longer has much for range of motion, because of the fact that the pain from the torn shoulder tendons makes one not want to move the shoulder.

I am hoping that PT will get me most of my range of motion back.

I am one hurtin' unit tonight though...and I have made contact with my three people so I will be able to sleep.

When they poke prod stretch pull fold spindle and mutilate me I can't feel a thing and wish to god I could. One thing I learned - be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

Not that I wish you pain, far from it, but be glad you CAN feel the pain. :)

BTW - the pulley and the big giant rubber band both work great - just watch your form. :)

Get well soon.
