Can we boost the economy by mandating people to buy?
(I don't mean this for real. But I want to discuss this as if I meant it for real.)

I know this sounds dictator-like, but could it work for some goods?

You must buy your kid a computer or you get a big fine. If you can't afford one, the state will buy you one.

Thus computer production goes up and more jobs are created.

More production also means higher GDP.

Will this work to boost the economy?

1. Misses the whole purpose of the economy
The purpose of the economy is to distribute goods based upon need and demand. Forcing people to buy things they don't need or want would not help the economy at all.
