Whoa! The Kobe allegation involved unconsensual anal sex?
I admit that I haven't been paying much attention to this story but is this new information? Just heard it on Hardball.

14. actually
Bryant is a VERY smart individual. Speaks three or four different languages fluently and lived outside of the United States for most of his childhood.

He's not a dumb jock.

8. Can't say I feel sorry for Kobe
..when I read shit like that.
Sigh, he had all the talent and money...and he just flushed it all down the toilet in an act of violence and stupidity.
He could be in jail for a long time, and if he is guilty of what is being described, then he deserves it. However, innocent until proven guilty.

11. and they are not filing charges
of false inprisonment because that's a misdemeanor and the prosecutors don't want to give the jury an out.

you know what's interesting? back when Nike signed both Kobe and LeBron to deals (Lebron's was 2x that of Kobe) they said Kobe didn't have enough 'street cred' to sell shoes like LeBron (a guy from Akron has more street cred? what's this world coming to?) you think raping a white girl in the ass will help his street cred?

3. Yeah, heard that last friday on Maher's show.
Politics won't be on any of the "news shows" until this case is over, it will be a repeat of the OJ trial.

13. Damn, so much for innocent until PROVEN guilty
Look people, all we have gotten on this story is third and fourth hand hearsay, innuendo from friends of the accuser, a media frenzy, and spin, spin spin. Do any of us know what really went on? No, then why don't we wait until the trial to condemn the man. This is the same kind of shit that was being bandied about before the Bettis trial, and he was found innocent, with his accuser getting charged for filing a false accusation.

Geez, give it a break, you will get a chance to vent your bloodlust after the trial.

Besides, it looks like this celebrity case is doing the job it is supposed to do, divert the publics attention away from the real crimes that are going on, like Bush lying and our soldier dying, meanwhile raping Iraq on a daily basis while the US economy is going down the toilet. Sheesh, don't be so damn gullible.

16. "Innocent until proven guilty" only applies to the select jury...
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 10:39 AM by jchild
...not to JQ Public. The first amendment allows DUers to express their opinions on the case, within the bounds set by admins of this site. I doubt that discussions of this case will taint the jury pool any more than what is happening in the mainstream press.

And many of us have minds that are capable of seizing multiple issues at the same time...I can contemplate the Bryant case and simultaneously consider the quagmire that is Iraq or the mess that is the US economy.

Women's issues, including rape, domestic violence, and the injustice and discrimination that many women experience are paramount on my list of political issues, so I will discuss this case, and I will read threads and news items about this case. Meanwhile, if you are more interested in the economy or the war, just ignore these threads, but don't get all preachy towards those of us who consider it to be an important issue worthy of our attention.

And, on edit: I am really getting tired of the repeated "innocent until proven guilty, so don't discuss it" cliches.

17. Excuse me, but innocent until proven guilty applies to the defendant
Not you, not me, nor the potential jury pool.

And yes, under the first amendment, you have the right to discuss this case. But dealing in gossip, innuendo, and hearsay not only reflects badly on yourself, but having thread after thread of this garbage reflects badly on this board. Do you REALLY know any of the facts in this case? If not, then how can you make any kind of logical judgement?

And equating this case to some great "issue", especially when you don't know what the facts of this case are is ludicrous! If you are so interested in women's issues, why don't you take the time you devote to trash talking this case and go WORK on women's issues?

And I'm sorry if you're getting tired of "cliches". But they too are protected by the first amendment. Deal.

Kobe: No dude, I'm out of grape jelly.

Celly: Then stuff my shit.

Kobe: Can't do it, it violates my parole.

Celly: Bitch, you better do something.

Kobe: I can dribble and dunk.

Celly: Crossover then.

Kobe: Promise not to tell Shaq?
