I heard the red wing blackbird today! The males come up North about a week
ahead of the females to scout out nesting sites. There is still about 8" of snow everywhere, but the ground is showing under the shrubs at least. The only problem is that sometimes we get one last big snow storm (or ICE) after the blackbirds return.

1. Ta-WEET!
I know the call of those birds well. They migrate through here as well. I love them. I love it when the males get all aggresive and fluff out their red/orange feathers...

7. they live around here year-around
Clear Lake, Cal, an outstanding place for bird-watching.

For really impressive, one needs to check out the American white pelicans (they visit here in the winter); those guys are BIG: 62" beak to tail, wingspan 8-1/2 to 9 feet!
