CLEAN AIR TRUST ASSAILS BUSH ADMINISTRATION FOR WEAKENING CLEAN AIR PROTECTIONS FOR NATIONAL PARKS

(Washington, D.C. February 13, 2004) - The nonprofit Clean Air Trust today assailed the Bush administration's decision to weaken clean air protections for national parks.

The case involves the state of North Dakota, which wants to permit more energy development and pollution near the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and other pristine lands. Since 1999, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has opposed this move, saying that existing coal-burning electric power plants already are sullying the pristine lands.
