My terrible, deep dark secret: I've been watching "Dennis Miller"
It's just so perversely bad. It's almost fascinating to watch in its sheer horribleness. Watching him try so desperately to be entertaining...and failing miserably (you can almost see the flop sweat). Watching him as his "jokes" fall flat (with not even his sycophantic crew laughing). A freaking chimpanzee, for Christ's sake.

Sometimes, I just like watching someone's career....deservedly...self destruct before my eyes.

Go ahead...cast me out and stone me over my sick guilty pleasure.

:-)

Terry

2. They'll have to cast me out, too.
I can only stand a few minutes here and there, but dammit, I enjoy seeing Miller humiliate himself. At some point it becomes painful and I have to change the channel.

I read somewhere that his audience is shrinking by about 50% each week he's on the air. Pretty soon it's just going to be you and me. :)

3. We slow down and rubberneck at car wrecks too!
Same dynamic at work. Except in this case, I won't say a prayer for the victim. :)

4. Aha, so you're the one!
His ratings are tanking, even for CNBC.

5. Question?
Was Miller ever funny or amusing? Droll...yes...entertaining...no!

6. For a while I questioned whether my taste had changed
but I eventually felt vindicated in my opinion that Dennis Miller is no longer funny.

I'm hoping the inevitable cancellation of his show signals the high tide of advertising interest in right-wing partisan media coverage has crested behind us.

About 15 years ago Dennis Miller did some HBO specials that were bitingly funny. The first season of his HBO show was well-written. I own his first "Rants" book, and while it doesn't hold up that well over time, there's still some insightful stuff in there.

But he's shooting blanks now.

IMHO, his growing dependence on the immense wealth needed to feed his ego has corrupted his ability to interpret reality as perceived by a normal TV viewer. His subconscious knows he needs his own chops busted, and his contract with CNBC is manifesting precisely that outcome.

But then, I'm no Charles Krauthammer.

8. Ohhh.
So you're the ones giving him ratings. I knew it seems like they were too high. His old HBO show was tolerable up to a point but now.... I guess since I cut off my cable I can resist the temptation to watch him kill what's left of his career.

9. Miller tried the talk show thing back in 1992, before he was a freeper...
And he flopped horribly then. Not funny. And annoying to boot. The show lasted only a few months at best.

Watch and see his CNBC abortion bite the dust also. I say he's gone by June.

11. I will say this in praise of Dennis Miller
he's about 1% more entertaining than Colin Quinn. Might be due to that extra 1 pt. of I.Q. I hold the remote in my hand during the last 5 minutes of The Daily Show due to the severe danger of seeing even a second of Quinn's horrid show. A co-worker narrowly escaped serious injury desperately stumbling around her livingroom looking for the remote when Quinn's show came on. Be prepared.
