Just made my first homemade sushi and wow it was yummy!
I can't afford to eat out at the nice sushi place very often, but I'm addicted to the stuff, so I tried to approximate the fixins'. I made some sticky jasmine rice and spread it on the nori, then topped it with sliced avocado, white mushrooms, scallions, extra firm tofu and Thai hot chili mayo. (Can't find any roe around here, and sashimi-grade fish is not to be had either.)

Dayyam! That was great! I loaded it too full, so I couldn't quite close the roll. It was more like a big wrap. For tomorrow, I'll experiment with some other ingredients, including carrot, mango, honeydew melon and celery. And best of all, it's cheap to make! I can have a great meal for about $2.00.

My name is Hardhead, and I'm a sushi addict.

because I'm happy with the super market sushi  I made sushi just once and it was a success but it was confusing for me.. anyway I was a wimp and made California rolls.

6. Oh, I wish! The proper ingredients are Japanese mayo & Japanese chili oil or Sriracha sauce
But the international section at Kroger didn't have those, so I looked for the closest facsimile, and found this Dynasty brand Thai Hot Chili Mayonnaise made from genuine Sriracha. It says hot & spicy, but it's actually pretty mild if you're used to tex-mex. Good stuff. It brings out the flavor of the veggies nicely without overpowering them.
