How do you handle personal attacks?

Here on DU?
I'm a pretty easy going guy, and I've learned to stay out of the flame wars.
I can't remember the last time somebody tried to bust my hump, but it just happened. Fairly high post count, but not quad digits yet.

"If I was a mod and had to listen to everyone whine and bellyache all the..
time, I'd come thru their computer and choke them"

I sent a PM, suggesting they try Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People", or maybe take "Tact 101".

And just now, in my e-mail inbox, NOT a PM from DU, I get:
"Wow! Whining in person - now THAT is whining!!"

I've never put anyone on ignore before, but I guess there's a first time for everything.

How do you handle this crap?

I've tried just ignoring them, but that just makes me miserable. I've tried making them feel as badly as I do, but that makes me feel guilty AND miserable.

Seriously though, if you send slightly snarky PMs to people you shouldn't be surprised if you end up getting a slightly snarkier PM in return. The ignore feature is a good friend - of course, we admins and mods aren't allowed to use it, but we recommend its use.

I'm going to lock this thread now though, because I'd rather not have a discussion of how best to take revenge on someone who was rude to you on the message board. Remember the Golden Rule!
