It's spring and the grass is growing.....
Today I gave my lawnmower away. The guy that took it has the mechanical skills I lack and will be able to make good use of it. I've used it for six years and simply don't want to spend more money having repairs done to it at this point. And frankly I am tired of cussing it. So now I am shopping for a new lawnmower. A self-propelled mower that bags and mulches.

Please share your recommendations - and horror stories. I need some advice.

Thanks for the input.

1. how large is the yard? If it is a smallish city lot, just get an electric mower
they are incredibly lightweight so you don't much need the self propelled feature
they are much quieter
and of course much, much less maintainence
and it will either mulch the clippings, or you can attach the bag and catch the stuff.
Either way it is great.

We LOVE ours. And we have a gorgeous flourescent green/yellow extension cord too.

3. The lot is just over a quarter acre
and it is rough. Sloped. Has some surface tree roots. And there is a bit of damage done by moles and gophers.

I'm a little reluctant to do a corded electric mower for a couple of reasons. I only have one outdoor electrical outlet and it most definitely is in a bad location. Also, there are areas of the yard that have a thick thatch that holds moisture.

I would definitely consider a battery powered electric mower.

4. No doubt
that would be an aid to my fitness program. The yard is sloped and rough. I love working outside but readily admit a predisposition for laziness.

At one point the self-propelled part of the last mower didn't work so I have some first hand knowledge of just how well a push mower would serve this lot. It's feasible until the hot muggy dog days of summer. Then it's a real killer.
