Three years ago last night, at 9:35 PM on February 13, 2001, My Grandma passed away at the age of 84.
She was proud to be a Democrat whose last Presidential vote was for Gore. She and my grandpa (a WWII vet who staunchly supported Democratic Congresswoman Martha Griffiths) wed on Febuary 11 (I don't know which year). (Grandpa passed in 1985.) Grandma's mother died on February 14, 1975, and her father died on February 12, 1976. As you can imagine, the middle of February is a rough time for my mom and I.
A survivor of tuberculosis, Grandma had two sisters who died of the disease. Her brother died several years ago, and her sister-in-law died a couple of months before she did, during the Florida Recount controversy.
I'm disappointed that the last President she knew was Bush (she was conscious enough to see, and know about, his becoming President), but for her sake I'm glad she didn't make it long enough to see September 11, 2001, the war in Iraq, etc.
I'm sorry I have not been able to tell you about her.
(p.s.: Notice that she died less than a month after he was sworn in. Please, however, don't blame Bush for her death. Not that anyone would.)
