http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/story?id=1591351Judge Leo Holt said Wednesday such fan misbehavior is so uncommon that deterrence wasn't an issue in sentencing.????
What???
It's uncommon, so we shouldn't try to deter it? That's hilarious. So hilarious I forgot to fucking laugh.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-0308070068aug07,1,5743834.story?coll=chi-newslocal-hed"Baseball is a microcosm of the society, and as such, has both the desirable and undesirable," Holt said. "The violence that ballplayers are exposed to comes from within.
"What fan has not seen a pitcher intentionally hurl a baseball at a player's head at 90 miles per hour?" the judge continued. "Who has not seen a batter leave home plate headed for the pitcher's mound, bat in hand, bent on mischief and mayhem?"This is even richer. What, Gamboa had it coming? What's next; fans strung out on meth and beer will be allowed to run on the field and attack people because a sport is violent? (Baseball being the ultra-violent sport that it is).
I heard on ESPN radio this morning that Holt (dipshit) made a further comment that the White Sox and baseball themselves hold some of the blame for
serving alcohol. As if someone put a gun to this psycho fuckwad's head and forced him to get drunk at a game.
It's not really the sentence that bothers me, it's the judges rationale for giving it. It is completely idiotic, and I see why prosecutors would want to steer high-profile cases away from him.
