OK, it's been a week now
A week ago today, I got a response from a prospective employer saying she'd contact me "in the coming days." Is 7 enough "coming days" to warrant my writing back now? I don't want to appear anywhere near as desperate as I really am, but I sort of took "coming days" to mean I'd hear back last Friday, or maybe Monday/Tuesday. That it has gotten to be Thursday and the days are still coming is somewhat frustrating. Almost as frustrating as reading through the "kinky" thread as a single guy.

So, should I take the initiative and get back in touch now, or wait 'til tomorrow, or wait 'til Monday, or just give up all hope and add this to the long, long list of jobs that didn't want me, and then get really drunk?

I hereby ask for the Lounge to make up my mind for me.

1. Check in
a definite "no" or "the decision-maker is on vacation" and its varients are way better than not knowing.

2. Do it now!
I would write a very nice, polite note reminding this woman of her statement. Then ask if she has made her decision, and if not, ask when you can expect a response. Show her you're still interested!

3. It's ALWAYS longer than they say, than it should be, than you'd have
any reason to expect. Just wait. Fuss and fume, but privately.

4. I'd send her a subtle, not direct, reminder
Don't press her for an answer. I'd just send a follow-up WRT something you discussed in the first interview, maybe. A little extra nudge in your favor.

6. What Steph said...I had to use that exact gambit

...after my interview for my current job. Sent an innocuous thank you note (no pressing for answer) and it seemed to get the process off high-center.

Good luck! :D

7. I should clarify
there has not yet been an interview. A friend tipped me off a week ago today that this dept. was hiring for a position that looked to have been created (although it clearly wasn't) with me in mind. She sent me the hiring Director's e-mail, and I sent her my CV and a brief cover letter highlighting my expertise in the field in question (medical writing/editing with a focus on human subject research. believe it or not, that's my specialty), and linking to online documents I've produced for two other universities. She wrote back almost immediately, but has since dropped off the edge of the world.

In other words, I have nothing to say in reestablishing contact that wouldn't come across as "I'm ever so desperate for your attention."

8. I disagree.
Send a brief note. Remind her of the position and your interest in it. Thank her for her courtesy in returning your first e-mail. Ask for an update, as to when interviews might begin? Or, if there is a closing date for the position...

9. Dammit GOP!
Is it your goal in life to give sound advice that makes it seem somehow wrong for me to get shitty drunk and feel sorry for myself in the mid-afternoon?!?

;-)

10. Write the note; then get drunk!
Even if she responds today, you don't have to get back with her until tomorrow morning!

Now, if you've figured out a way NOT to work, yet still get paid, clue me in because I don't much care for my gig, but at least I have one.

11. I'm still waiting
for any of these lovely DU ladies to take me on as a "kept man." Will let you know how that ultimately works out...

Guess I should take a few minutes here to compose my thoughts and dash off a quick note to the powers that be hiring.
