Very bright red spots on my dog's belly *eek*

Egypt is outside on her run right now. My daughter just yelled up to me at the house to hurry and see.

There are two red circles (almost perfectly round) on Egypt's belly that I have never seen before - the are about the size of a regular bead and they are bright, blood red. It is NOT blood. I ran my fingers over them and it did not seem to bother her at all. The spots seem to be changes in pigmentation on her skin.

They do not appear to be insect bites. There is a faint cat scratch on the inside of her leg, but no bleeding or scarring there.

Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

1. Something like ringworm?

I don't know if dogs get that but it is a fungus I believe, not an actual worm.

and yes dogs can get it. So can humans.

It sounds more like the bull's eye rash of Lyme



These are shown on human skin so the colors will be a bit different on animals.

Ok, now that I've seen the picture, it looks more like a blood blister...akin to a human hickey.

3. Might be hot spots

Google it and see if you think it's the same thing. My dogs have had them on their face and bellies before.

There's some ointment you can get, if the dog won't lick it off.

"My puppies love to play in the grass. They have the same spots. They are from black flies. I just brought them in and there little bellies were covered in the flies when I finally got rid of the flies I had the spots."

black fly season.

mosquitos will avoid the dog. They don't like the smell and the taste.

On a breed specific forum that I post on, a woman said her dog got spots like that after being spayed and they were bruises. She posted photos and they look very much like the spots on Egypt. Bruises or black flies - either way not a big deal.

12. It took me a minute, b/c I recognized it, and

couldn't remember why for a sec...Then I remembered when Buddy got them and I freaked the fuck out. He doesn't always get them, not every summer, and they fade pretty quickly. I am 99% sure that's what you have going on. Of course, if it gets worse or starts to get weird, take Egypt to the Vet. I'll keep you all in my thoughts. :pals:
