The No. 1 hit is my name on a former DUer's blog, followed by stuff from Dean for America, my own blog, MeetUp, scifi.about.com and other random stuff.

To find my actual job, you'll have to scroll down. It's about 16 on the list.

However, I am apparently John Kerry's ex-wife, since my blog gets about 30% of its hits from that search string (I'm No. 1 for that on Yahoo and MSN, but buried on Google).

The guy with my name who does show up most often probably deserves any hate mail he gets, even when it is meant for me. If he's reading his hate mail, he's probably thinking, "WTF?????? What did I ever say about Botany and gay marriage????"

I have posted my internet name here on DU a few times, but google hasn't found those posts. Very good.

That is, my last name is unusual and my first name is slightly uncommon, so the combination of the two appears to be almost unique.

47. I get a marathon runner
Funny story - my last name is clunky, Germanic and really uncommon, so I'm surprised to find anyone who shares my first and last, but some marathon runner/track coach guy does indeed share both. So anyway, I was at a job interview a couple of years ago and the HR person starts asking me questions about running! I stifled the urge to laugh in his face about his shoddy research (I mean, the other "me" isn't even in anywhere near the same state and is about 15 years my senior) when he clearly seemed so proud of himself for having the presence of mind to Google me.

The interview, not incidentally, was at ClearChannel. I didn't get the job. }(

WAY more fun that Googling your name, though, is doing an exact phrase search for "(your first name) is." A small sample of what I get:

Ron is arguably the world's pre-eminent high voltage electron microscopist/materials scientist

Ron is back with Neil Diamond doing what he does best

Ron is the first place third party recruiters should come to execute your internet strategy

Ron is the one giving orders

Ron is one of the most exciting and realistic Elvis stylists in the world

I am seeking friends 18 to 50. Someone to correspond with or meet who's honest and very open minded and does not mind writing letters. 66. Mostly sites about the late jazz singer
But page one also has a link about a blues guitarist who died in the '80s which was odd to see because he was called "Big" just as I am by some of my friends. Plus, there is a link to a communications firm, a California Congressional candidate, and a profile of a character on a British TV series. I didn't go further than page one.

67. I use two middle initials for a damn good reason
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 12:58 AM by fortyfeetunder
Have a common pair of names after I got married, and damn good thing I use both initials. I tell my family please use both initials when sending me checks and stuff so there is no room for identity theft.

Googled my name as I write it, and got zilch.

But when using either my middle initial or the initial of my maiden name, shit, I might as well make a list of what cities to keep the eff out of because women with my name are wanted in several states!!!!

Edited for typo termination.

69. Just myself
If I use my full name, I just get myself--but I did turn up an old letter to Salon.com that I'd forgotten about from 2000. Seems quaint now . . .

October 24, 2000 | Read the story

Y es, yes, yes. When is Al Gore going to figure out that anybody who ever cared about the Lewinsky scandal is never going to vote for a Democrat anyway, and that the rest of us would feel better about supporting him if he showed some spine by working with the president who brought about the incredible achievements Gore should be bragging about? If young people are voting for Bush, perhaps it's because they can't remember a time when deficits dominated budget talks, public healthcare practitioners couldn't even mention morning-after pills or abortion services to desperate clients, and the Supreme Court seemed poised to eliminate the Bill of Rights, thanks to Reagan-Bush appointees. --

73. Mostly stuff from my old college newspaper
Someone put together a very impressive site for alumni of the student newspaper staff. Links to a few things I wrote, primarily "where are they now?".

My name is Irish and I get a few hits from a writer with the same name. It's all aeronautical stuff, not my gig but so technically impressive and well-written I'll gladly claim it during the next high school reunion.

74. Far Out!
I have a really common name, and get 1,360,000 hits to my name. On the first page alone I am a singer, dancer, anthropologist, law professor, author, and one entry that says I am "a nervous government officer in Yorkshire." I am also the nurse at my doctor's office and a guy living in a town a few miles away who is a friend of my boss's. There were two of us at the tiny community college I attended, and before I was married (and took new last name) I knew three of me.
