Driving the truck in nothing but boxers and work boots

That's what my little brother just called and told me. The ac went out in the truck again.

1. Sitting in a an Easy-Bake Oven

Had that happen last year in Virginia, it was over 90 and the compressor clutch took a dump. Even at the end of the day, in the cool of the evening, the residual heat emanting from the engine and transmission like a huge heat sink kept the inside of my truck over 100 degrees.

I got a room that night. Just can't sleep when it's hot.

2. I think this might

be a wiring problem. I had the clutch replaced two weeks ago. The damn thing worked on and off for a little while. Now it's not working at all. I told him to take it back to the shop but he said he was ok.

3. Check the 'hot wire' to the clutch

The positive power lead that carries the current from the A/C on/off switch on many trucks is, for some reason, usually quite flimsy, too short, and prone to breakage.

The wire routing can be convoluted, near high heat sources or pinch points where the wire can break or chafe the insulation off.

I had to re-route mine as the wire broke, then shorted out. Used some of that corrugated flexible plastic wiring protector and some wire looms to clean up the wiring tangle on the front of the motor, that seemed to do the trick.


I think that the mounting location of most A/C compressors contribute to their premature failure.
