Comcast people, esp. in NE: I can't figure out if I'm going to lose MSNBC or not
So we got notice that they're moving MSNBC to channel 200-something from channel 67, in anticipation of the digital switchover of 2009. Now, I was under the impression that b/c we already have digital cable, that this wouldn't be an issue for us and that we wouldn't need a converter box. I've been hearing things that lead me to believe that this is not the case. But I can't seem to find anything definitive either way. They're switching the channel in July, I think, and I gotta figure this out.

Anyone?

Thanks! :hi:

1. It depends
Some of Comcasts channels are carried over cable on the various additional digital channels. If MSNBC will be actually broadcast on one of those then your digital tuner will be able to find it. Although I doubt Comcast will tell you where it actually is. Much like PBS World is on Comcast Ch. 40 something while it is transmitted on digital ch 2.2

2. Which package do you have?
My understanding is that different packages give you channels to 100, channels to 200, channels 300+, etc, not counting the premium channels.

If you're not on the bare bones digital package I think you'd be okay, but I'm in a different market so you might want to call to make sure.

Also, their channel rejiggering has nothing to do with the digital switchover, which only effects broadcast tv and doesn't effect people who get their TV signal solely from cable at all. I'm not surprised if they're blaming that for bumping popular channels into a higher tier, but one has nothing to do with the other.

3. Iirc, we have Digital Preferred
We get all the 200's, the HBO 300s, and a few 600's (special sub. Foreign channels).

Thanks for the info. :hi:
