Not just customers I deal with on the phone, I've encountered this many times with friends and family as well, and I have no idea what to make of it.

They're dumb. ;-)

Seriously, they simply don't know, and since they plug their Internet connection into the back of the tower, they figure the tower IS the modem.

9. OK, no idea.
I've never ever heard someone call the tower a modem. I have had people think the monitor is the computer PLENTY of times. My ex husband poured water on my monitor thinking he was frying my PC. He was wrong. Jackass.

8. I don't understand why people can't tell the difference between income and expense ledgers
A credit to an expense ledger reduces expenses, but a credit to an income ledger increases income. It's pretty damn simple.

11. Is that sarcasm?
Accounting doesn't pervade every day life for most people the way copmuters and the internet do. You'd think if you're using something regularly, you'd know the basics. If someone was trying to deal with ledgers and such I'd expect them to know the basics as well.

23. I don't know why people don't know the difference between pressure plates and clutch discs, then.
Including me.

Some people live lives where they learn how to use something for what they want to use it for, and don't need to learn anything else about the product. Which is good, or I wouldn't have a job. A diversified economy counts on ignorance. :)

19. Some people are stupid?
Did you ever notice that? How many really stupid people you run into during the day? Goddam there's a lot of stupid bastards walking around. Carry a little pad and pencil with you. You'll wind up with thirty or forty names by the end of the day. Look at it this way: Think of how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.

20. Because they know there's this modem thingy that connects to the phone jack
and the other end of the line is in that box with the pretty lights, so the box must be a modem.

24. Why do people think they need a bigger hard drive when I tell them they need more memory?
I guess that one's kinda easier to understand (btw, I don't know what planet of America PeaceNikki's on, I have PLENTY of dumbasses call the tower the modem) if it was like...1992 or something...but seriously? We haven't figured that fundamental piece of the computing puzzle out yet? JAYSUS. :banghead:

26. Exactly, computers are becoming more andmore integral to everyday life.
To me, knowing the difference between the modem and the tower is like knowing the difference between the radio and trunk in a car. Even the dumbest of the dumb should be aware of it.
