Etiquette question: Is it rude to turn off your host's television

it's an informal visit, and they walk in and just turn off your t.v.

but again the host should probably have done it first, now I could see all kinds of extenuating circumstances to leave it on so communication is probably called for. "Oh that is something I really wanted to see would it be alright if we watch?" Or something like that. (or hit the record button if you have one???)

I'm sure I've wanted to do that more than once, but I've resisted the urge.

He says it's distracting, but I think it's the volume. My husband is deaf in one ear, so it has to be louder than normal.

I don't, and not having one, I find it very distracting as well.

Constant sound and flashing colors (changes from scene to scene or camera angle to camera angle) - it's a box that is just incessantly saying "Look at me! Look at ME!"

I'm just being too pleasant to mention it. I've kicked people out for shutting off my stereo in the past. I'm weird.

I guess I adapt to any environment I'm in, so I kinda expect others to. :shrug:

16. To be honest.. context here would help...

I mean I've gone over to a friends house and they had hard core porn on the TV.. although I didn't turn it off.. I'd have liked to... I'm sure you don't fit into this category though... so were you watching a sitcom? Maybe I would have done that if I had been following Lost, and you had the season finale on, and I hadn't seen it yet.. even then though I would have explained myself before turning off said TV.. Having said all that I'd also say that I have aspergers and often violate social moreas without even knowing it... and would have had the sense not to do this without a good reason.. so my advice would be to talk to the offender and find out why they did this? If nothing else.. perhaps it was an unspoken compliment? They are so comfortable around you that they felt it was OK to turn off your TV (as casually as they would have theirs) had they been in their home and seen a program they didn't like.
