5. I've felt that way before...

...even after 1000+ posts. But I had to realize that I held myself at a distance. Didn't really make an effort to be a strong part of the DU community. Weeks or months would go by and I wouldn't post. How could I expect to be noticed or remembered? Not saying this is your situation-- I'm just giving you my experience. Now, I post occasionally. That's all I can manage, and I suspect some people around here remember me from time to time. My point is: Once I let go of the ego thing, and my NEED to be recognized, it was all alright.

I'm mot sure what to tell you. Some people can post "Achoo!" and get 100 responses. Others just don't seem to catch on.

Have an opinion about something. Then someone will flame you, and then they will follow you around like black flies in August. That will get you remembered.

12. My suggestion?

Here's the twelve step program to DU Notoriety, based on careful observation of the activities of Highly (d)Effective DUers:

(1) Get a cat and/or dog, preferably both, preferably multiple versions of both. Let everyone on DU know.
(2) Photograph these pets obsessively in the hope they may do something amusing or cute. Post the results on DU.
(3) Videotape them 24/7, with a view to posting the results on YouTube. And, of course, DU.
(4) Keep detailed records of your pets' state of health, eating habits, coat condition, fecal consistency and any other information you consider pertinent. Post even the most trivial factoid on DU, making sure to leave no detail out.
(5) Remember to pepper the text of these posts with "TEH CUUUUUUUUTE" or "AWWWWWWW" as much as possible.
(6) Supplement posts referring to your own pets with posts about random peoples' pets, or with LOLCAT photos, or with information concerning just about anything fur-bearing (though not fur clothing - this is a faux pas).
(7) Use a picture of a cat and/or dog as your avatar.
(8) Create a signature comprised of photos of your pet(s).
(9) Regularly solicit other DUers' opinions on pet care. Extra points for inciting a flamewar.
(10) Work a mention of your pet(s) into everything you post, however inappropriately.
(11) Post an MP3 on DU of your pet barking or mewing.
(12) Post a picture of yourself naked.

Follow these simple steps and you'll soon occupy a commanding position at the pinnacle of DU society.
