No pet sales

The council approved on final reading an ordinance pertaining to the sale of pets. Ordinance number 821 makes it illegal to sell or give away animals in public places in the city limits, unless the person in question is a dealer.

The topic arose due to a continuing debate about animal control in the city. Shelbyville's animal control officer Randy McCullough told the council at an earlier date that one of the sources of the dilemma surrounding stray dogs is the fact that the animals are given away in retail parking lots, only to be later abandoned by the new owners.

The ordinance allows local animal control and the Humane Association to hold adoptions and would not prevent people from selling or giving away pets from their own residence.

Unfortunatly spaying & nuetering animals is not as popular as it should be in my county. When these idiots figure out that female dogs can actually get pregnant they usually take them down to Wal-mart & try to give them away. Now that option is no longer viable. These people will not take the puppies to the "shelter", they will end up driving them "out to the country" where I live.

I try to help when I can but with six dogs already I can't take any more in. I don't know what I am going to do if there is a flood of dumped pups here.

1. Go snipe the dickheads doing the dumping

We have the same problem here where I live as well.

What is pissing me off lately is folks who breed dogs and sell them for 100s of dollars when there are plenty out there being dumped. I've discussed spay/neuter to them and it is like taboo or something. What happens is the next people who buy the pups end up with 2-3 litters before they say... "hmm... dogs fuckin makes more dogs.. who woulda thunk..."

Then they drop the pups off at your house.

2. I have approached people giving away pups- offered to help pay for spaying.

I said if they would pay half, I would pay half. NOBODY has ever taken me up on the offer.
