Hrmm....Sock yarn...$18.99 a skein...I need to justify this purchase...
I'm going home tomorrow, and am planning to stop at Webs, America's Yarn Superstore, on the way home. I don't get home a lot, so I wanna duck in.

I want 2 skeins of Noro Kureyon Sock yarn, $18.99 ea.
6 skeins of Cascade Fixation, $4.60 ea.

That's...$65.58.

That's a bunch of socks too...I suppose I can transfer from the sewing machine fund for now. Ha! Justification.

5. "but I like knitting!"
I think that's my girlfriend's justification. I think she spends more money on yarn than I've ever spent on anything in my entire life.

6. It's not a cheap habit...that's the downside
Between the needles, yarn, and assorted gadgets, it gets pricey. But yeah, there's a good reason behind our madness.

Have her knit you some socks. :)

7. ha! she was just talking about that tonight
She's constantly asking to knit me socks, but I've told her over and over again that she should just knit things for people who would appreciate it. I'm very picky about socks, and while I'd appreciate the gesture, I think it would be a lot of wasted time on her part to just have me put them in a drawer. I said that I could wear them around the house in winter, but was told that hand-made socks can't put up with that, so.... now she's on to making her own yarn, which I think is neat, but also ridiculous. I'm one of these people who finds it very hard to spend money, even on useful things. The fact that she can spend all of her extra money on a hobby baffles me. Something in my brain would break if I spent too much money on things just for fun.

8. It's such a useful habit though...and,
you shouldn't knock homemade socks until you try them. Many people never go back. :)

And making your own yarn is awesome. Go her!!

You should encourage her, it's more than a hobby, trust me. :)

9. I encourage her to a point
...I just preferred when our movie watching involved hand-holding, where as now it involves me sitting there and her knitting :/ oh well. Oh... god... we're going on a road trip in a few weeks. If she tries to knit while I'm driving my head might explode. If she tries to knit while she's driving, we'll all die, which would be sad.

11. oh sweet lord....
Her parents just bought her a new car (she hasn't had one or needed one for a few years), but want ME to drive it 3,000 miles, because they know she's a horrible driver. I don't think they really like me very much, but they do like that I'm a safe driver, and that having me drive means no accidents or traffic tickets for their daughter. Not that those things haven't ever, and couldn't ever happen to me, but I have a better record for avoiding them. I can't even imagine what sort of fines and points my sweet pookie will rack up if she starts knitting at stop lights or in traffic jams.

16. If she's spinning, that can be very meditative for her.
I've found that I get in a "zone" when I spin. It relaxes me and gets my mind centered on what I'm doing and nothing all the crap from the day.

19. it's not the spinning with a wheel kind
it may or may not be a "drop spindle" - what these words mean are lost on me, but I hear them over and over again. However, I think that's what it is that she likes about knitting in general, along with just being a sort of nut about clothes.

24. I have loads of fun!
Mostly from watching tv. I don't really have hobbies, as such, because as a musician, my work and hobby are basically the same thing.

Virtue is its own punishment. Besides, it's going to be freakin' cold in N.E. & those tootsies will need to be warm.

15. It's cheaper than yarn for a sweater.
However, beware the Noro sock yarn--I've read several reviews that said it was scratchy like the Noro Kureyon, and many people have found a lot of knots in the skeins (again, just like Kureyon).

I love the Fixation, though--there's a great pattern in the Knitty.com archives for a lace sock in that yarn. I think it's the most comfortable sock yarn out there.

Lucky you, living so close to Webs! I'd be in real trouble if that was me.

Happy Knitting!

17. Yeah, I've heard that about the Noro
and yeah, the knots, typical Noro! The colorways are so tempting though...

I love Fixation!

I actually don't live there anymore, I used to live 15 minutes away, now more like 2 hours. I'm going home for a visit today. But, I might hold off, as I'm going back on Saturday. I have plenty of yarn to tide me over until then, lol.

20. Wow! I just did the exact same thing!
The other day I hit the old fashioned independant
yarn shop in the inner city,
and bought 2 skeins of German sock yarn,
Austermann, 'Step' yarn,
mit Aloe vera und jojoba oil (soothing to knit,
soothing on the tootsies!)

Cant' read the rest of the label.
$19.95 a skein...

I just learned how to do socks on dp needles,
and everyone's getting socks for Christmas this year.

Oh, I love the Kureyon yarn,
but I agree about the scratchiness factor.
I'll suffer for beauty but I can't expect
my family to understand the 'coolness' of Kureyon.
